As the doctor delivered the news, Lena's expression remained resolute, her eyes locked onto the doctor's face. "I understand. What's the plan for his recovery?" The doctor nodded, his expression serious. "We'll be monitoring him closely in the ICU. We'll need to assess his progress over the next few hours to determine the best course of action." Lena nodded, her mind already racing with the implications. "I'll need to be kept informed of any changes in his condition. I'll also need to speak with his security team to ensure that the hospital is secure." Emma nodded in agreement, her eyes already on her phone, likely contacting the security team. The doctor nodded. "Of course, ma'am. We'll keep you updated on President Grey's condition." As they entered the ICU, Lena's gaze fell on Ryan, her heart aching with concern. She pushed aside her emotions, focusing on the task at hand. She needed to be strong for Ryan, and for the company. "Emma, get me the latest on the investigation into the shooting," Lena said, her voice firm. "I want to know who was behind this and why." Emma nodded, her expression determined. "I'll get right on it, ma'am." Lena turned to the doctor. "What's the prognosis for President Grey's recovery?" The doctor hesitated before answering. "It's too early to say for certain, but we're optimistic. President Grey is a strong individual, and with proper care, he should make a full recovery." Lena nodded, her mind already racing with the possibilities. She knew that this incident would have far-reaching implications, both personally and professionally. But she was ready to face whatever came next, head-on. Lena arrived at Ryan's ward, carrying a container of warm porridge. She smiled as she entered the room, expecting to see Ryan's usual charming smile. However, Ryan's expression was more subdued than usual, likely due to the pain and discomfort from his surgery. "Good morning," Lena said, setting the porridge down on the bedside table. "I brought you some breakfast. How are you feeling today?" Ryan's eyes flickered to the porridge, and a hint of a smile played on his lips. "I'm feeling a bit better, thanks. But I think I'm more hungry than I thought." As Lena reached out to help Ryan sit up, her top accidentally got caught on the bed rail, and it tore slightly. She didn't notice it at first, too focused on helping Ryan. However, as Ryan's eyes met hers, his gaze dropped to her chest, and his expression changed. Lena's eyes followed his gaze, and her face flushed as she realized her top was torn, revealing a hint of her bra. "Oh, um, sorry about that," Lena said, trying to play it cool despite her embarrassment. She quickly adjusted her top, trying to cover herself. Ryan's eyes met hers, and he smiled weakly. "No need to apologize. I think I'm just a bit more observant than usual today." The moment hung in the air, awkward and charged. Lena cleared her throat, trying to break the tension. "So, how's the medication working for you? Are you feeling any pain?" Ryan nodded, his expression serious. "The medication is helping, but I'm still feeling a bit sore. I'm just glad to be alive." Lena's expression turned somber, thinking about the attempt on Ryan's life. "I'm glad you're safe. We'll get to the bottom of this, Ryan. I promise." Ryan's eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, Lena saw a glimmer of determination in his gaze. "I know we will, Lena. I have a few ideas already." Lena raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What do you mean?" Ryan's expression turned thoughtful. "I think this might be more than just a random attack. I think it might be connected to our business dealings." Lena's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with possibilities. "That's a good point. I'll look into it further." As they continued to discuss the potential implications, Lena couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She knew that Ryan's life was still in danger, and she was determined to do everything in her power to protect him. Just then, Emma walked in with a folder in her hand. "President Grey, I have some updates on the investigation. The police are still reviewing the footage, but they think they might have found a lead." Ryan's eyes lit up with interest. "What is it?" Emma hesitated before speaking. "It seems one of the cameras caught a glimpse of the attacker's face. They're running it through facial recognition software now." Lena's eyes locked onto Emma's, her mind racing with possibilities. This could be the break they needed to catch the person behind the attack. "Keep me updated on any developments," Lena said, her voice firm. Emma nodded and left the room, leaving Lena and Ryan alone. The silence between them was filled with unspoken worries and contemplations. As the day went on, Lena received updates on the investigation, but nothing concrete had been discovered yet. She was getting frustrated, knowing that time was of the essence in catching the person behind the attack. Ryan, on the other hand, was getting restless in the hospital. He was used to being active and in control, and the confinement was starting to get to him. "I need to get out of here," Ryan said, his voice firm. "I can't just lie around and wait for someone to come after me again." Lena's eyes narrowed. "You're not going anywhere, Ryan. You're still recovering from surgery. You need to focus on getting better." Ryan's expression turned stubborn. "I understand that, but I need to be involved in the investigation. I need to know what's going on." Lena sighed, knowing that Ryan wasn't going to back down. "Fine. I'll arrange for a secure line to be set up in your room, and you can review the footage and reports with me. But you need to promise me you'll stay in bed and not exert yourself." Ryan nodded, a hint of a smile on his lips. "Deal." As the secure line was set up, Lena and Ryan began to review the footage and reports. They pored over the details, looking for any clues that might lead them to the person behind the attack. As they worked, Lena couldn't help but notice the way Ryan's eyes lit up when he was focused on a problem. She had always known that he was intelligent and driven, but seeing him in action like this was impressive. After hours of reviewing the footage, they finally found a lead. A small detail in the corner of one of the frames caught their attention. It was a reflection in a window, and it showed a partial license plate number of a car that was nearby during the attack. Lena's eyes locked onto Ryan's, excitement building. "This could be it. We might finally have a lead." Ryan nodded, his expression determined. "Let's get to work on tracking down that car. I want to know who was behind this." As they continued to work, Lena couldn't help but feel a sense of hope. Maybe they would finally catch the person responsible and bring them to justice.
