Lena's hands moved swiftly as she dialed the emergency number, her eyes never leaving Ryan's face. She relayed their situation to the operator, her voice calm and collected. As she waited for the ambulance to arrive, Lena's mind racing with thoughts of how to keep Ryan stable. She knew every minute counted. She gently shook Ryan's shoulders, trying to keep him awake. "Ryan, stay with me. Don't fall asleep," she urged, her voice firm but gentle. Ryan's eyes fluttered open, and he smiled weakly. "Lena...I'm sorry..." Lena's grip on his hand tightened. "Don't apologize, Ryan. You're going to be okay. Just stay awake." As she spoke, Lena's medical knowledge kicked in. She had always kept this part of her identity hidden, but now it might just save Ryan's life. She carefully examined the wound, her hands moving with a precision that belied her calm demeanor. She knew she had to remove the bullet, but the risk of infection or further damage was high. Lena's mind weighed the options, her thoughts racing with the what-ifs. If she didn't act, Ryan might not make it. As she contemplated her next move, the sound of sirens echoed outside. The ambulance had arrived. Lena's relief was palpable as the paramedics rushed in, their faces set with determination. "Ma'am, we've got this," one of them said, gently moving Lena aside. Lena watched as they expertly stabilized Ryan, their movements swift and precise. She felt a pang of guilt for not being able to help more, but she knew she'd made the right decision. As they loaded Ryan into the ambulance, Lena climbed in beside him, her hand holding his. She couldn't shake the feeling that her secrets were about to be exposed. The paramedic looked at her with a curious expression. "Ma'am, you're quite knowledgeable about medical procedures. What do you do for a living?" Lena's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't expected this question. "I'm...a researcher," she replied, trying to sound nonchalant. The paramedic nodded, but Lena could sense a hint of skepticism. She knew she had to be careful. Her secrets couldn't be revealed, not now, not when Ryan's life was still hanging in the balance. As the ambulance sped to the hospital, Lena's thoughts were a jumble of emotions and worries. Ryan had taken a bullet for her, although she would have handled the situation her way , Ryan was already mixed up in this mess and now she owes him a favour, she sighed, shaking her head. The hospital's emergency room was a flurry of activity as medical staff rushed to save Ryan Grey's life. Lena stood frozen, her eyes fixed on the chaos unfolding before her. The beeping of machines, the antiseptic smell, and the soft murmurs of the medical team created a sense of urgency. A nurse swiftly inserted an IV line into Ryan's arm, while another expertly monitored his vital signs. The doctor's voice was calm and collected as he barked orders to his team. Lena felt like she was in a daze, her emotions jumbled and overwhelming. She had always been strong, but seeing Ryan fight for his life brought out a vulnerability she hadn't known existed. Her eyes welled up with tears as she watched the medical team work tirelessly to save him. Just as she was starting to feel like she was going to collapse, a gentle touch on her arm made her turn. It was one of the nurses, offering her a sympathetic smile. "Ma'am, can you tell us more about what happened?" the nurse asked, her voice soft and understanding. Lena took a deep breath and recounted the events leading up to Ryan's shooting. Her voice shook slightly, but she tried to remain composed. As she spoke, the hospital's doors swung open, and a woman with a look of determination rushed in. She was dressed in a crisp business suit, her hair pulled back in a neat bun. "Where's President Grey?" she asked the nurse, her voice firm and authoritative. The nurse pointed to the room where Ryan was being treated. The woman's eyes locked onto Lena, and she strode over, her heels clicking on the floor. "What happened, ma'am?" the woman asked Lena, her voice softer now. "I'm Emma, President Grey's assistant." Lena's eyes filled with dampness again replied. "He was shot," she whispered. "he took a bullet for me, Emma." Emma's expression was a mix of concern and determination. "We'll get through this, ma'am. President Grey is strong. He'll pull through." As they hugged, the medical team continued to work on Ryan. The machines beeped, and the doctors' voices were calm and reassuring. After what felt like an eternity, the doctor emerged from the room, his mask pulled down around his neck. "Ms...?" he asked, looking at Lena for confirmation. "Lena," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. The doctor nodded. "Ms. Lena, President Grey is stable for now. We're moving him to surgery to remove the bullet." Lena's eyes locked onto the doctor's, her heart racing with fear. "Will he be okay?" she asked, her voice shaking. The doctor's expression was guarded. "We'll do everything we can. But it's going to be a long and complex surgery." Lena nodded, her eyes welling up with tears again. Emma wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders, and together they watched as Ryan was wheeled away to surgery. The waiting game had begun, and Lena's emotions were stretched to the limit. Would Ryan make it through the surgery? Only time would tell. As the hours ticked by, Lena and Emma waited anxiously in the hospital's waiting room. The silence between them was filled with unspoken worries and fears. Lena's mind kept wandering back to the moment Ryan was shot, replaying the scene over and over in her head. Emma broke the silence, her voice soft but determined. "Ma'am, I need to make some calls. Can I get you anything while I'm at it?" Lena shook her head, her eyes fixed on the floor. "No, thank you, Emma. Just keep me updated on President Grey's condition." Emma nodded and pulled out her phone, stepping outside to make her calls. Lena watched her go, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her. Emma had always been more than just an assistant to Ryan; she was a loyal and trusted member of his team. As the minutes ticked by, Lena's anxiety grew. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. She paced back and forth in the waiting room, her eyes fixed on the clock. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the doctor emerged from the operating room. Lena's heart skipped a beat as she rushed towards him. "How is he?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The doctor's expression was guarded. "The surgery was a success, but President Grey's condition is still critical. We'll need to monitor him closely over the next few hours." "What happens next?" Lena asked, her voice shaking. The doctor nodded. "We'll be moving President Grey to the ICU. You can visit him there, but please, just one person at a time." Lena nodded, her heart heavy with worry. As they followed the doctor to the ICU, Lena couldn't help but wonder what the future held for Ryan. Would he recover fully, or would this incident leave a lasting impact on his life? The uncertainty hung in the air like a dark cloud, casting a shadow over Lena's heart. She knew she had to stay strong, not just for Ryan, but for herself as well. The road ahead would be long and difficult, but she was determined to face it head-on.
