Ava's POV
“Miss Ava, breakfast is ready,” Miss Grace said for the tenth time now, her voice straining from the other side of the door.
Ever since my not so good encounter with Alessandro. Gosh, I hate him. I decided to lock myself in my room and not talk to anyone ever again.
He's everything I imagined him to be; rude and a complete jerk.
I could still feel his eyes on me and his piercing words on how this marriage was going to work no matter what.
“You're not going to lock yourself in here forever,” Miss Grace spoke again her voice
tranced with worry.
“I'm ok,” I spoke feeling exhausted. “I'm not hungry, not now.”
She paused for a second before speaking up. “Ok dear, just let me know when you want to eat.”
“Alright, thank you,” I mummered.
I could hear her footsteps as she walked away.
I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, the fan rotating slowly.
It dawned on me that nobody gave a s**t about my tears, I've pleaded, begged and even threatened to end my life but my father has been adamant and seems like he has made up his mind.
I still didn't understand his reason for insisting I marry a man like him. He kept on going on, on how he will protect and keep me safe.
From what?
From who?
A man who is ruthless and does not even have a conscience… If I ever needed protection, then it's from him.
For one terrifying second, disappearing forever almost sounded easier.
A faint knock came from the other side of the door.
“I said I’m not hungry!” I screamed, frustration burning through my chest.
Your dress is ready, a maid spoke slowly.
“Please come down and try it on.”
Dress.
What dress.
I don't remember ordering a dress, plus I buy my own clothes from a boutique.
I groaned, slowly getting down the bed.
Walking to the mirror at the side of my bed
I noticed how swollen my eyes were. I looked devastated.
I grabbed the robe hanging in my closet as I wrapped myself with it.
Stilling for a second, I took a deep breath and finally opened the door. The maid was still standing there waiting for me
“Please come,” she gestured with her hand.
I followed her as we went down the stairs.
I froze as my eyes scanned the living room. Gold, jewelry, shoes, hair clips.
What the hell?
Decorations everywhere. My eyes stopped at the beautiful silk gown hanged near the window. The sunrays made the dress gleam.
It was beautiful.
Wait! Why was there a dress in front of me?
I clutched my robe, swallowing a lump in my throat. My face suddenly turned pale.
“What's this,” I turned to the maid.
“It's your dress for your wedding tomorrow.”
Her words hit me like a slap. I swear I could hear my own heartbeat and my head suddenly felt dizzy.
“What!” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
My wedding, tomorrow!
No f*****g way.
“You have to try the dress on to know if it fits.” The maid softly spoke, sounding unbothered by the fact that I was having a mental breakdown.
“I think these shoes will fit perfectly on you”
The maid smiled widely as she held a glass crystal heels like she was holding her dear life.
Everywhere blurred, I couldn't breathe.
Tears threatened to fall and my legs felt heavy. Another maid approached me with a shiny golden box that looks like a ring.
“Your fiancé sent this beautiful engagement ring for you,” her voice filled with excitement.
Anger rose in my chest, I bit the inside of my cheek so hard I'm sure I tasted blood.
“No I..” I stammered.
“This can’t be happening.”
I snatched the little box from the maid and flung it across the room so hard it slammed against the wall.
That ring is the symbol of how f****d up my life it's going to be.
I hadn’t even wrapped my head around the idea of getting married yet.
And now tomorrow.
The tears I tried to hold for long cause I wasn't ready for the maids to see me cry finally let loose and I lost it.
My hands flew up to my chest like I was protecting myself from something unseen
My legs wobbly as I dropped to the floor
I could hear the gaps from the maids around me but right now I didn't care.
I sobbed so badly my eyes started to hurt.
“Oh my God. Miss Ava is everything ok.” one of the maids spoke.
Nothing is okay, nothing is ever going to be okay from now on.
I pushed myself to my feet, my legs still weak and my head pounding. I was exhausted. Completely drained.
I needed air and I needed to get myself out of that space or I swear I might lose my mind.
I stormed out of the house, I didn't say a word to anyone and I left barefooted as well.
Running as fast as I could, I was able to leave the mansion gate and to the main road. The cold wind hit my skin as I clutched my thin flowering gown I was wearing. I had no idea where I was going .
“No.. this can't be happening,” I mummered to myself.
People gave me that crazy look as they passed me but I didn't care. I just kept going. I didn't know I had reached the express road and cars were everywhere . A black SUV sat parked across the street, but I barely noticed it through my tears.
I was still in my own messed up world that I didn't hear the car behind me. One second I was almost hit, the other second a strong hand grabbed me from the side and I hit a hard chest.
Everything happened so fast I was speechless.
“What the f**k do you thing you're doing?”
Wait.
That voice.
I know that voice.
Slowly lifting my head from his chest, I looked at him
Alessandro.
His intoxicating scent hit me, my life flashed before my eyes. My life is ruined because of him.
I shoved him away with every bit of strength I had, but he barely moved.
“Let go,” I hissed, glaring at him with red, burning eyes.
He simply stared at me, emotionless, while his fingers tightened around my arm.
“Are you trying to get yourself killed,”he spoke again, his voice dangerously low.
“And why do you care if I live or die? It's none of your damn business.”
He let out a low chuckle, his lips close to my ears now, I could feel his body heat.
“Of course it's my business princess, we're getting married tomorrow, remember.”
Of course he had to shove it in my face that I belonged to him now.
“Read my lips, asshole. I will never marry you.” I snapped my eyes filled with tears.
He simply stared at me, anger and frustration flickering across his face.
“We'll see about that.”
All of a sudden he nodded at the guy behind him which I think was his guard cause he was dressed in black suit and looked mean just like him.
The guard nodded back at him and walked away.
“You're coming with me,” he turned to me.
“I will do no such thing, now let go.” I snapped, still trying to get my hand away from him.
He dragged me alongside him as he moved.
“Where are you taking me?”
“Home.”He simply said.
“I can find my way back home, Thank you.” My voice filled with mockery.
He stopped and looked at me. a devilish smirk escaping his lips. I wanted to punch him right in the face.
“I mean your new home princess.”
“My house.” He said.
I froze. My eyes widened.
“What the hell. What are you saying, we're not even married yet.”
“And what's the difference between today and tomorrow” his voice cold.
How dare he.
I bent my head and sank my teeth into his hand.
He hissed in pain, his grip finally loosening.
I bolted instantly.
But I barely made it two steps before a strong arm wrapped around my waist from behind, dragging me back against his chest.
A gasp escaped my lips at the sudden closeness of our bodies.
His grip tightened slightly as one hand slid slowly from my waist to my neck before curling around my jaw, forcing my head up.
I hated his touch but it ignited a fire within me. He leaned, I could hear him breathing behind me.
“You're one fierce cat, princess. I love them fierce”,His thumb lingered at the corner of my lips. I was trembling now and my breathing was heavy.
I felt a sudden sting at the side of my neck.
My eyes widened.
What did he just do?
I was losing consciousness.
“What's happening to me?” I whispered.
Alessandro caught me before I hit the ground.
“Shh! just go to sleep princess.” His voice came from behind me.
“We have a big day tomorrow.”
Through the ringing in my ears, I heard another voice.
"Boss, are you sure this is a good idea?”
"What happens when she finds out?" The strange voice spoke again.
A heavy silence followed.
Then Alessandro's voice came low and cold.
"She can never know what happened that night."
That night?
Before I could make sense of it, darkness swallowed me whole.
