Chapter Twelve: Grandma

Alex Almost every weekend, Daddy and I drove back to our pack house in the mountains. I always told Joy we were going to visit my Grandma, which was at least partially true. My grandma did live in the pack house, and I spent most of my time with her while we were home and Daddy was busy taking care of pack business. The pack house looked like a big sprawling farm house, but it was actually three stories, with a finished underground basement. The barn behind it also concealed more apartments, and there were small cabins scattered throughout the forest. To the humans who lived in the area who drove by or tried to take a peek through the iron bars of the fence that surrounded the entire 1800-acre estate, it just looked like some rich person’s hobby farm.
