Ava stepped into Adger’s penthouse located at the outskirt of Kensington. The walls of the penthouse were lined with floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a stunning view of the city skyline. The marble floor shone in the light of the crystal chandelier, the plush furniture was arranged with carefulness. Every piece of decor seemed to exude luxury and opulence, from the silk rug to the gilded picture frames. “Welcome home Master Adgar” a woman in her early fifties came out from the hallway and greeted Adgar. She clothed his coat from him and his suitcase. “ Ava meet my housekeeper Ruth, she will show you your way around the house” he said “ I have something to do” he went upstairs afterwards. They just came back from the registry, both of them were now legally married. It was a contract marriage but it’s between the both of them so to the outside world they were married. “ This way ma’am let me take you to your room” Ruth told Ava as she led her down the hallway lined with antique paintings and gilded sconces. The thick carpet muffled their footsteps as they walked, and the air smelled faintly of lavender. At the end of the hallway, a pair of double doors stood closed, their polished brass handles gleaming in the light. Ava’s mouth was open in awe throughout the journey. Ruth pushed the door in front open and made way for Ava to enter. “Here is your room ma’am, if you need anything you can let me know” she said “ you can call me Ava” Ava wasn’t too familiar with the ma’am thing. “Okay madam Ava, I will get the cook to make something for you to eat” she said as she left the room gently closing the door behind her. Ava looked around the room the walls were covered with silk wallpaper, the shimmering in the light from the chandelier. The bed was draped in the finest linen, and a vase of fresh flowers sat on the nightstand. Everything in the room spoke of elegance and luxury. The room was filled with natural light, the sunlight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. She was dazed, who could have thought that within the space of a day she would be in Adger’s house as his wife. She thought about how her parents will feel when they find out. Of course the will be very proud of her, cause the only thing they know how to do best was worshipping and finding a way to associate themselves with elites just to gain favour. Her parents were not poor but they were not one of the wealthiest family either. They were just in the middle, her father ran his own business. Her father never missed out on dinner parties provided wealthy men of Kensington will there. Her parents were so happy when Alan Luther proposed to her. The Luther family were counted among the richest family in Kensington though they are not as wealthy as the Wilsons.
Ava after freshening up came downstairs to see Adger sitting comfortably at the dinning table his personal assistant standing beside him whispering something into his ear. Ava couldn’t help but admire her fake husband from a distance. He has just freshened up and changed into a crisp white vast. His skin was glowing and he smelt faintly of sandalwood and citrus. His hair looked damp, and his face looked smooth and clean-shaven. He had a relax and contented expression on his face. “Come, sit down and have something to eat” Adger said when he looked up and saw Ava staring at him. She walked swiftly and sat at the end of the dinning table opposite him. “We will be going to meet my grandfather tonight” Adger said while picking up the napkin on the table and placing it perfectly on his body. “What do you have to said about that” He had to ask her seeing that she didn’t respond to his first statement. “It’s fine… “ she replied him but didn’t look up, she was busy playing with the spoon. Adger figured out she might be shy and decided to let her be. They are in silence afterwards, only the clattering of plate and spoon could be heard.
“What! he didn’t tell me we were going for a party” Ava was shocked at Ruth’s revelation that they were actually go for the old man’s 70th birthday party. “Maybe it escaped his memory ma’am “ Ruth made excuses for Adger. “The stylist and makeup artist are already here “ she continued “Stylist? What do I need a stylist for?” Ava asked her surprised. She have heard that all this wealthy people style themselves up before any party but this was the first time she would experience it. “You’re attending the old man’s birthday party, everyone will be there and master Adger will be announcing you as his wife tonight, so you need to look your best” Ruth took her time to explain to her. Ava nodded her head, she has never been to a big birthday party. Her parent’s never took her to anyone, they only took Chloe with them. That’s why she’s able to meet with influential people unlike her that’s always locked up reading.
Dressed in a red gown clung to her curves, the fabric was shimmering in the light. Her hair was swept up in an elegant style, and her makeup was understated and perfect. She descended the stairs slowly, her eyes meeting Adger’s and for a moment he forgot to breathe, as she approached him he felt his heart skip a beat. He could feel himself blushing as she smiled at him. “He has never been this fluttered by a woman, what’s going on?” he thought silently. “You look absolutely stunning” he said as she came close to him. The servants present were surprised. There have never seen their boss compliment a woman not to talk us him blushing this way. He was always cold towards women. He didn’t entertain them, no woman was allowed into his house apart from his relatives. And here he was smiling and complimenting this mysterious lady that came from nowhere.
Adger helped Ava into the car as a gentleman. “ why didn’t you tell me we were going for your grandfathers birthday party” Ava asked immediately he came into the car. “I have never been to parties like this and I’m scared and nervous I don’t want to spoils things for you” she said putting her face down, it was necessary to let him know how she felt. “You don’t have to scared you’re there with me” Adger smiled at here and held her hand. Her heart skipped a beat. What was she doing this is a fake husband, they shouldn’t be any feeling she taped her self.
The birthday Party was held at the Wilson’s family house. The house was decked out in streamers and balloons, with a large banner reading “Happy Birthday!”hanging over the grand staircase. The tables were set with the finest silver covering and large decadent cake was the centerpiece of the feast. It was clear that no expense had been spared in celebrating the old man’s special day. Ava was all alone in the hall, Adger had to answer an important business call so he asked her to go in first.
The room was filled with important people, all dressed in their finest clothes. There were politicians, celebrities, and even royalty. They mingled and chatted, sipping champagne and nibbling on canapes. Some were smiling and laughing, while others were deep in serious conversation. There was a sense of excitement and importance in the air, as if something momentous was about to happen."
Ava was lost, she didn’t fit in. Adger had sent his bodyguard with her but he just went to get her a glass of wine so she was just standing sitting alone. Then she heard the one voice of the one person she prayed she wouldn’t meet that day. “ How did you find me here! Must you follow me everywhere I go!” She turned to see her sister Chloe shouting at her and of course Alan standing like a statue beside her. Ava didn’t want any troubles do she didn’t bother responding as he made to leave Chloe determined to embarrassed her pushed her back and poured a full glass of water on her. This drew the attention of people to them.
