Lilly's POV
The second the huge royal pack house came into view, my heart started to race uncontrollably in my chest. It was massive and intimidating—stretching high, wide, and proud.
I have never seen such a big building before.
How many wolves lived here?
My gaze swept over some smaller buildings surrounding the massive pack house. It appeared as though a small town stood guard over the massive pack house.
The limo abruptly stopped, and my gaze swept back to the pack house.
Two guards quickly ran closer. They looked just as intimidating as the pack house—big, strong, and powerful, wearing royal blue-colored suits.
James lowered the window, and the two guards abruptly stopped. They seemed surprised to see him.
"Senior warrior, James," the one said, confusion crossing his face as his eyes shifted toward me.
"Yes, my brother, Jacob, and I," James replied.
James's face turned stern and his eyes cold. He suddenly seemed upset about something.
"Who is the she-wolf?" The second guard posed the question.
Jacob lowly growled next to me.
The two guards immediately stepped away from the vehicle, dropping their gazes as fear crossed their eyes.
I frowned and shifted my attention toward Jacob. He seemed a bit annoyed; his movements became calculated and stiff. He seems to be angry about something.
However, Jacob ignored my stare; he simply opened the passenger door and got out, rushing toward the two guards.
"What is going on?" I muttered, surprised at Jacob's behavior.
James chuckled, amused, before he opened his passenger door and got out.
My gaze shifted to Jacob. He was growling furiously at the guards and barking orders. He looked as if he would explode at any minute.
James, on the other hand, was grinning. He seems to find the situation amusing and hilarious.
What was Jacob's deal?
Was I the cause of his anger?
My eyes widened as fear filled my insides. My heart rate escalated in my chest, and my body visibly started shaking.
I hope I wasn't the reason for his anger. I will never survive a beating from him.
"Aren't you coming?" James asked.
I reverted my gaze toward him.
James seemed confused by my behavior. Could he see and smell my fear?
"I-" I stuttered, my gaze shifting back to Jacob. He looked so furious now.
"Don't worry," James said, holding out his hand to me. "Everything is fine. Jacob was merely irritated by the manner in which they looked at you. It's nothing to worry about. He is just a bit... uhm... overprotective of you—like a brother."
"Overprotective?" I silently uttered the words.
"Yes," James said. "Jacob is highly sensitive to the treatment you received." He cares deeply for you—well, we both do—and we have seen the circumstances you live in..."
They feel sorry for me. They pity me! Was it a good or a bad thing?
I internally sighed.
"Come on," James continued. "The party is inside, and it's getting late. Everyone is already waiting for us."
I forcefully pushed my anxiety aside and carefully scooted closer to the door, careful not to ruin my dress.
Once I got out of the car, Jacob asked, "Are you ready?" He seemed to be back to his normal self.
"Yes," I whispered as my gaze followed the lining of the huge pack house. It seems bigger and more intimidating than just a moment ago.
Jacob winked, turned around, climbed the few steps to the top, and waited for me and James.
James patted my hand, and we started to the top of the stairs.
A small gasp escaped my lips when I noticed two huge golden Lycan statues guarding the pack house double doors.
Their intricate sculpting gave them a lifelike appearance. Their sapphire-colored eyes gazed down at me, penetrating the depths of my soul with a presence that exuded power and authority.
"You have seen nothing yet," James whispered to me.
The two guards from earlier quickly opened the door for us.
Jacob gestured for us to go first and stepped aside.
My eyes widened when I saw a fountain in the center of the massive foyer. Natural light came from the ceiling and shone directly above it.
The fountain was huge and extraordinary! I had never seen such a detailed and beautiful fountain before.
The statues and basin were carved from the most expensive white marble, and golden flecks were visible everywhere on the basin.
I step forward, wanting to have a closer look. I couldn't resist feeling the smooth marble beneath my fingertips.
My gaze landed on the centerpiece—a beautiful woman sitting on a platform surrounded by four Lycan wolves.
Each Lycan was holding a symbol and facing in a direction.
"It's spectacular, isn't it?" Jacob inquired as he moved to stand next to me.
"It's something," I muttered in agreement.
"The statues symbolize the four former Lycan kingdoms," Jacob said.
"Four kingdoms?" I asked, frowning. "I don't understand."
"Well, the Goddess created the Lycan wolves first. Each kingdom had magic and lived in the four corners of the world," Jacob said, gesturing to the symbols. "The Northern kingdom was gifted with the ability to manipulate water; they are known as snow wolves. The Eastern kingdom possessed the ability to transform into fire, known as the Inferno Wolves."
My eyes widened.
"The Southern kingdom," Jacob continued. "Could move the earth."
"Earth wolves?" I muttered, and Jacob shook his head.
"Mire wolves, and the Western Kingdom could influence the wind," he continued. "We call them storm wolves."
"So, what happened?" I asked, curious.
"King Xavier," James interrupted, and his gaze swept toward his brother. "It's not the time to give Miss Lilly a history lesson. They are waiting. Beta Zack just mind-linked and asked where we were."
"We will continue our discussion a bit later," Jacob said, and he nodded toward his brother.
I followed James and Jacob into a long hallway full of paintings of kings and queens.
The final painting captivated my attention, causing me to halt abruptly.
Those eyes. They looked so familiar, as if I had seen them before.
"King Alpha Alexander," Jacob said proudly. "He is our current king. He is Prince Lex's father."
My gaze found Jacob's.
"Is there a painting of Prince Lex?" I asked, feeling something stir inside me.
"These are only kings who have already ruled," he replied.
"Only when Prince Lex formally takes over the kingdom will his painting be hung on the wall," James added. "That will only happen when he finds his new queen."
I nodded in understanding, and we walked in silence down the quiet hallway until I could hear excited chattering further down.
"We are here," Jacob announced.
James came to a stop; he quickly removed stray hair from my face and checked if my dress was straightened.
"You look perfect," he said with a smile.
"Just like a real princess," Jacob added and winked.
Before I could even blush, the ballroom doors opened, and high-pitched screaming erupted as if some celebrity were crossing a group of fans.
I shifted my attention toward the commotion, interested in learning what it was all about.
At that moment, a group of ten wolves stepped outside the ballroom. I immediately recognized Beta Zackary as one of them.
Beta Zack shifted his gaze toward us as if someone had called his name. He found mine, smiled happily, and waved to me.
I lifted my hand in response to waving back, but the tall, dark-headed wolf next to him suddenly shifted his attention toward the direction Zack was waving.
My breath hitched when I saw his face...
Could it be?
Is that the wolf from my dreams?
