Chapter 17 - Monster

1091 Words
Lilly's POV A warm and painful feeling shot through my body, and everything around me abruptly seemed to slow. The beast pierced my skin deeper, digging his canines deeper and deeper into my flesh. I whimpered in pain, slamming my fist against his chest as I tried to fight him off. But it was no use; he was much stronger than my frail human form. Is this how I will meet my creator—being ripped apart by a half-wolf monster? I have never seen anything as hideous as this beast. Just as I was about to give up all hope, he extracted his canines from my nape, pulled his head back, shifted his bloody muzzle up to the sky, and released a long and nerve-wracking howl. I shivered at the sound, as my knees buckled under my weight. He seemed kind of excited about his accomplishment—murdering a helpless, wolfless girl. Small, white things, like ash, appear and twinkle down from the sky. They were cold and wet against my hot and swollen skin. The wind abruptly shook the surrounding trees while it soundlessly whistled a melody in my ears. I could feel the earth shaking under my feet, scooping and moving leaves. An unexplained warmth enveloped me, making me feel weightless and gently laying me down on the bed of leaves. I could barely keep my eyelids open; my body was worn out and my mind exhausted. The smell of blood tickled my nostrils; it was oozing out from the wounds on my nape. They haven't healed—how could they? I clearly lack any wolf abilities. For a moment, I just lay there. I gazed at the sky with heavy eyes. Am I about to die? Will someone rescue me? The blood moon was about to reach its peak, and it looked so beautifully red against the dark night sky. An ironic smile formed on my lips—everyone else must be busy celebrating the event while I lie here helplessly and ready to leave this cruel world. "You are not dying, Lilly!" An angelic voice chimed in my ears. Startled I looked around, searching for the woman behind the voice. However, only the beast stood there, all proud and strong. "Hello?" I stuttered anxiously. "I am not sure you can hear me, but... but... but... I am scared. Please. Please help me! I... I don't want to die tonight." "Calm down," the voice chimed a second time. "I am not going to let you die. Everything is going to be alright. Just give me a moment..." "A moment to do what?" I whispered. "I am dying!" Was I losing my mind? Was I hearing things? A hysterical sound ripped from my lips the moment everything around me turned dead silent—I could only hear my heart pounding in my chest. The wind had quieted down and stopped shaking the trees around us. The earth under my body had stopped shaking, and even the white, cold things had disappeared from the sky. I suddenly felt cold. The heat that was once present vanished abruptly. What is going on? A cold feeling ran down my back, making me shiver. Is this how my last moments would be—all alone with a hideous beast? My chest constricted, causing my breath to become trapped in my throat. There was so much I still wanted to see and do... Howling suddenly erupted from a distance, indicating the blood moon had reached its peak. I could abruptly feel a shift in atmosphere—the magic from the moonlight almost soothing to my pain. My end must be growing nearer. A small, trembling grin spread over my lips as I closed my eyes. The idea of letting go and slipping into darkness feels tempting, almost more satisfying than my current existence. There wasn't much left I could live for. I was a nobody—an orphan who was taken in and made a slave. Death didn't sound so painful anymore. I could almost welcome it. Will Beta Zack miss me? Will he notice my absence? Will the twins remember me after I am gone? My fingers started to tingle, and a moment later the most excruciating pain rippled through my body. My eyes flew open, and a horrific scream escaped my lips. My body abruptly rolled over onto my stomach. My body twisted and turned uncontrollably on the floor. The sound of cracking, snapping, and breaking bones echoed through the silent night. My dress and all the last accessories were ripped from my body, and the pieces came down like rain, scattered all around me. I shivered—not only because I felt cold, but because I was afraid. I was now lying cold and naked on the garden floor. Another horrific scream left my lips as the most excruciating pain rippled through my body. I used my last energy to fight against the pain and prayed to the Goddess to save me. I tried to push myself up with my arms, but the effort was to no avail. A sudden boiling hot feeling rushed through my veins, making me pant out of breath and lose control. I lift my gaze, searching to find the beast. He didn't stand too far from me. He seemed intoxicated as he swayed on his feet. Yet, I didn't move. He watched my every move. Was this his doing? Was he punishing me for some unknown reason? Was he using magic to kill or change me into something more similar to him? Tears spilled over and rolled down the side of my face; they splattered onto my hands. I gasped, seeing my hands—they had transformed into claws! "What the f*ck is happening!" I gasped in bewilderment. "This must be some bad dream!" "Almost done," the voice chanted again. "Just one last thing!" What the hell was she talking about? What last thing? Was she going to put me in even more unbearable pain? I hissed in agony and threw my head back. My whole body was burning all over. A moment later, light gray hair sprouted from my skin and covered my body. I tightly closed my eyes and shook my head, wondering if my imagination was deceiving me. This can't be real! "All done," she chirped happily. "Now get onto all fours." Was she crazy? "Aw, come on, Lilly," she said, disappointed when I didn't move. "It's not that hard." What I saw next changed the course of my life completely... ****
