CHAPTER TWO

Diana's POV:
Gasps of shock rang out through the air. Yes I am shocked! What is going on now?!
I can't be hearing well, right?! There's no way alpha Lucian, the alpha of Moon crest pack, the most powerful pack around called me his mate? Right?
That's impossible! I can't be mated to him!
Alpha Lucian tilted his head to the side, his eyes watching me with disgust. "Oh, it's you?" He asked.
"Me?" I squeaked out.
"Are you the one?"
I looked around. Everyone had made way, so it was just I and him. I turned back to him. He looked pissed.
"This is a joke. This must be one big joke." He said. "I, Lucian Aurelius, alpha of moon crest pack reject....what's your name?"
Oh my goddess!
What is going on now?! Is he rejecting me?! Minutes after he got mated to me?!
"Diana Anderson." I replied.
"I reject you, Diana Anderson as my mate."
The crowd gapsed. Well of course, what did I expect? That he would actually be my mate? That was ridiculous. I was a nobody, I was on the run. He was an alpha, he was going to be mated to a princess or something like that.
"I..." I started to say, ready to accept his rejection. A loud shout rang out though the air, drawing attention away from me.
Aloha Lucian turned, walking away probably to see what the commotion was about. I felt the numerous eyes on me, and it made my skin feel hot. I felt red with embarrassment, standing there after being rejected so coldly.
"Diana?" I heard Eva's voice call. "I'm so sorry,"
"It's nothing ." I said, wiping my eyes furiously. "What was I expecting?" I laughed bitterly. "I'm going home now."
"Let me walk you home,"
"No!" I shouted. "I can find my way alone."
Eva looked at me, a sigh escaping her lips. "Fine. I'll see you at work tomorrow."
No. I wasn't staying here any longer. I had attracted too much attention, especially that of the alpha. I wasn't safe here anymore.
"Sure." I replied, already walking away.
I don't know why it hurt, maybe it had something to do with the mating bond. I wasn't even sure I felt the bond, after surpressing my wolf for so long so I left as little of trace as possible.
Diana Anderson. It had been a while since I told someone my full name. And hearing my name used in a rejection sentence hurt a lot.
I walked away from the ceremony, trying my best to ignore the eyes that were on me. Of course people would whisper and talk about me. I tried to keep my head up and not let it get to me.
"There she is!" I heard a loud shout, followed by the sound of footsteps rushing towards me. I turned, the same time I was grabbed roughly by the arms.
"Hey!" I cried out. Two guards appeared and grabbed me by both hands, dragging me away. "Put me down!" I screamed.
They were dragging me back to the pack house. What was going on here?! People were looking, and it was making me more embarrassed.
"Could you explain why you're dragging me away?!" I asked. There was no answer.
I looked around frantically, the only gaze I recognized was Eva. She looked scared. The guards dragged me inside the pack house. I wish I had time to admire the beauty, but I was too scared to do so.
The guards pushed me inside a room and locked the door before I could run out.
"Hey!" I screamed, banging on the door. "Let me out of here! I have to go back! Hey!"
There was no answer at all.
I gave up hitting the door. I couldn't wrap my head around what had just happened. Did I just get kidnapped right now?! Right after the most humiliating episode of my life?!
"This has to be a dream" I sighed. "I'm dreaming. And I will wake up and...."
The door was pushed open. Luckily I moved out of the way before it could slam into my head. I turned to see who had walked inside.
My heart caught in my throat as I saw alpha Lucian. Maybe it was the different light, maybe it was the small room.
But the man was huge. He took up so much space, both his bulk and his aura. Even though he hadn't spoken, only glowering at me like I was a cockroach, every fibre in my being told me to obey this man.
"Raine, right?" He said,
"Diana."
"What are you doing in my pack?" He dropped the question like a bomb.
I knew it!
This was why I avoided alphas. They always knew who was of their pack and who wasn't. Should I lie to him? Should I tell him the truth?
"I'm....I came here looking for work." I said.
If sniffing out lies was one of his powers, then I was dead.
"You're not leaving." He said. "Get yourself ready. Tomorrow you start work "
"Work?" I asked. "What kind of work?"
His eyes narrowed. "Do well to remember that I do not appreciate stupid questions." He said, his voice dark with anger.
I pursed my lips. "Yes. alpha Lucian."
"Have a good night." He said with a hint of finality and turned to leave. I heard the sound of the door click shut behind him and I just knew I had been locked inside again.
I knew it. I had been kidnapped. First, he rejected me and now he kidnaps me!
I sat down on the floor after he'd left. The room was small and had no sort of furniture in it. There was a window, but it wasn't large enough for me to squeeze through. The light was a single white bulb up ahead.
I had mixed feelings about this. For one, if I was going to work in the pack house, it was likely that I was also going to live here too. And that would mean security, to an extent. And food? I guess.
But then there was alpha Lucian.
I didn't know how to feel about him. I wish that I could feel the mate bond, feel something except the very dull ache in my chest.
I sighed heavily. The floor was cold and hard, but I was used to it already. Nights of sleeping in the barn with the cold and snakes.
I laid down on the floor, my body folded up against itself. I felt tired, all the adrenaline of the day evaporating from my body.
Today hadn't gone how I planned at all.

It felt like a cold bucket of water was dumped over me. I screamed, jolting up form the floor.
"Took you long enough!" An annoyed voice said. "Get up! You're late for your duties!"
I felt groggy, rubbing my eyes and trying to get as much sleep out of them as I could. "Duties?" I mumbled. What duties? Was I late for work?
"Alpha Lucian has summoned you!" The person shouted.
Alpha Lucian?
My eyes shot open, all traces of sleep gone. Alpha Lucian! How did I forget!
"He's pissed! Hurry now to him!"
