CHAPTER FOUR

Diana's POV: Three weeks. I've been in this place for three weeks. I've endured everything that the cruel alpha Lucian threw my way. His punishment, his mocking, his work, I've endured all of it. All for this moment. Today was the day I finally left this place. I had planned for days now, doing my best to allay suspicion. I couldn't have Lucian getting suspicious about me. I had been able to gather a small bag of things I needed. Once again, I was going to be on the run. I didn't like it, but it should be better than this hell. I waited until night. I waited until the entire pack house was asleep. And then I crept out of my room. I had mastered the layout of the house, so much that I knew my way around even in the dark. I carried the small bundle of food ,water and some clothes close to my chest as I made my way out of the annex. There was a secret way at the back of the annex, rarely guarded so I could easily slip through without any one knowing. Just as I left the annex and into the back yard, I heard voices speaking. My blood ran cold and I froze, my heart racing wildly. Had I been caught? Did alpha Lucian know about my escape and plan for it?! I felt rooted to the spot. Should I go back and pretend like nothing had happened? Or should I keep going ? "Hey!" I heard Eva's voice call out. I shuddered in fright. Was she also with them? Had she been spying on me the whole time? Reporting to alpha Lucian? "What are you doing here?" She asked. "Don't you know it's late?" "We're sorry, lady Eva." Lady Eva?! "Leave this place. Right now." She barked. "Yes, my lady." I heard the guards say and scurry off. "You can come out now, Diana." I'm dead. She's going to report to Lucian! And then I'll be dead! "I'm so sorry" I whispered as i stepped out of the shadows. "I was only trying to..." "Hurry up." She interrupted. "Alpha Lucian is a light sleeper." "What?" I paused, staring at her. She smiled sadly. "Hurry up already. If he catches you, he won't be as kind as me." "Why are you ..." She pulled me into a quick hug. "I pray we never meet again. Now go!" She pulled away. I nodded. "Thank you ...I....I'll see you later." She waved. "Bye, Diana." I turned and ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I had to get out of moon crest territory before any one noticed I was gone. I pushed aside every thought, aside the singular thought of survival. I had to get to safety. I had to survive. I had to get to the next pack! I didn't know how long I ran for. But I didn't stop running. Till the sun started to rise and the sky turned light. I kept running. I was aware of the strange looks I got from people. But that was the least of my problems right now. Suddenly, it hit me that something was strange. I paused, looking around me. The environment was strange, and the air was even weirder. It was almost like ...there wasn't a scent of a wolf in the air. I looked around me. There was no doubt that this was the human world. I had never been to the human world, I didn't know how to get there and I typically avoided it. How did I get here? I thought there was a mechanism in place that allowed only certain ranks to leave our world and come here? I'm lost. I'm more lost than I've ever been in my life before. I didn't have any money on me, nothing at all. "Excuse me, miss? Hey?" I realized someone had been calling me. I turned to see a young woman. She was dressed very smartly, a kind smile on her face. "Hello," I spoke softly. "Are you waiting for a bus?" She asked. I realized I was standing at a bus stop. "Yes." I lied. "Where are you going?" She asked. "California." I replied. I had seen it on a sign board. I didn't even know California. The lady laughed. "You just made that up didn't you?" She asked. I felt embarrassed. "Please don't talk to me." "I'm Sandra, and I'm a travel agent." She said. "It appears to me that you're in a hurry?" A bus was approaching. "Yes." I replied. The bus stopped in front of us. Sandra walked towards it, then turned to me. "Aren't you coming?" She asked. "I don't have any money." I replied calmly. "I'll pay for you." I stared at her. The bus driver honked loudly. "Come on " Sandra said, extending her hand for me. I reluctantly took her hand. "Thank you. I'll repay you." She took me inside the bus and we sat down. "Don't worry about it." She replied with a smile. "What's your name?" "Diana." "Well Diana, it's nice to meet you." I nodded. "Do you mind staying with me? I know you shouldn't trust strangers but....you seem very troubled to me." She's a human. I'm a werewolf. If it comes down to it, I can easily kill her. "Thank you. " I replied. "I appreciate your kindness." She smiled at me, and her eyes shone like stars. "That's perfect." *** Sandra took me with her to California's main city where I slowly adapted to her life, few weeks later I could not longer understand myself I was always feeling nauseous and having morning sickness Sandra also noticed it and decided to take me to the hospital for a check-up which I disagree to because I knew the minute I step my foot there the doctor will immediately find the differences in me. "Why don't you want to go to the hospital at least let us find out what exactly is wrong with you," Sandra asked me after several attempts to take me there. I knew what was wrong. And I confirmed it when I asked her to buy a pregnancy test kit for me Why did I not ever get to notice this or make a move on it? This was so obvious I noticed this but I was so foolish not to even check on it. "So what are you going to do now, are you going to go back to your family which you just ran away from or you are just going to push on as a single mom," Sandra asked when I showed her the double lines. I can't go back to Lucian. Not even in my wildest dreams. "I'll get a job." I replied. "As much as I can to be able to provide for my kid." "Diana," Sandra sighed. "You're not even twenty yet. Are you sure you want to do this?" She didn't know much about me. All I told her was that I was running from an abusive home. And she was so kind to let me stay in her house. I had to repay her, and for that I needed a job. "Yes." I replied. "I'll be fine. Thank you." "Very well." She sighed. "I have some friends, I'll get you started with a part time job. Does that sound fine?" "Yeah..." I replied. "It's fine.." The tears came. And I let them fall. Sandra held me close to her, and I cried in her arms. The next day, I started a part-time job in a few cafes and restaurants around which was the only job a person like me with no identity could do and before you knew it 9 months had passed. I thought I was having a kid. But instead I wasn't prepared to have twins.
