That morning I woke up and rolled out of the bed and sighed heavily. My eyes felt dry during the nonstop tears that fell as I slept. The warriors of the pack had collected my father’s body and closed his casket so the pack would not see the horror I had seen. I walked to the closet and chose a black tight dress that accentuated my curves and reached down to my ankles. I had it altered to have a slit on one side so I could move quickly if needed. I placed a veil over my head to hide my face and walked to the mirror. My eyes shone silver through the veil.
I walked out of my room and mind-linked the pack to gather at the front of the pack house then closed the link. The warriors placed my father’s casket at the front of the steps as I walked through the front doors and looked across the field of mourners.
“I, Abigail Silverfang, have come to you today to announce the tragic loss of our Alpha, my father, Art Silverfang. As you all know he would drink himself into slumber since our Luna, my mother died. I left him last night as I had thought he had fallen asleep. I went to my room to go to bed and that is when I heard the gunshot.”
The pack gasped.
“You lie!” Someone called out of the pack.
I lifted my veil and sought out the traitor who dared call me a liar. He stepped forward. He was unknown to me.
“There is no way he would kill himself.”
I moved down the the stairs towards the man who stood a head taller than me and snatched him by his throat.
“You dare call me, the Alpha’s daughter, a liar.”
He kicked his legs as he tried to claw my hand away from his neck.
“I have been the one who has put this man to bed for so many years because he got drunk and would pass out.” I dragged the man to the casket and opened it with the other hand. He, along with the entire pack gasped.
The warriors tried to close the casket to preserve some dignity to their former Alpha and I snapped my eyes to them. They backed away.
I dropped the man who called me out and he scrambled back to the crowd.
“This is what is left of the man that you called Alpha!” I glared around the field before turning to return to the top of the steps. I turned back to face the crowd. I nodded to the warriors to close the casket.
“The beta, some warriors and myself found him in his chambers with a gun by what was left of his head.” I sighed heavily.
“Since I am the only heir to the Alpha, I hereby pledge to run this pack as my father and mother had done to the best of my ability but somethings will change.” I glance back to the man who had called me a liar. “You will go to the dungeon for disrespecting me but my family for your ignorance.
“But Alpha please! How will I protect my family?” He cried out as the warriors drug him to the dungeons.
“You should have thought of that before you opened your mouth. Your family will be protected without your help.” I waved a hand dismissively. “Take him away.”
I turned to the crowd. “If we are done with the interruptions I would like to bury my father.” The crowd nodded as we headed to the burial site where my mother and aunt were buried.
They lowered his casket and started to bury it.
‘They were taken too soon. They left us alone.’
Diamond voiced my thoughts exactly.
I raised my head and howled and everyone joined.
I stood there as everyone walked away. I had no more tears to cry. I heard someone walk to stand beside me. I turn to see my grandmother.
“They were taken too soon.” She sighed.
I just nodded staring at my mother’s tombstone. She slid an arm around my shoulder and gave me a side hug. I leaned into her feeling content that I still had her.
“Now my dear, let’s go deal with this foul mouth man.” I flashed my eyes toward her, my anger come off in waves. She patted my back.
“Save that energy for him.” She walked towards the dungeons and I followed.
