I followed her, always keeping a little distance. Nick had already told me that it would be like this in the beginning. That I wanted to kill everything and everyone and suck every last drop of blood. But that's what scared me.

In Kate's office, I sat in the chair across from her desk and sipped my glass again. It was really scary how good the blood tasted and I wanted more and more of it. As with drugs.

"So Beth. I see you handled it pretty well. We've had many who have despaired and been completely thrown off course."

"Well, I'm from New York and you know my 'resume. I'm used to surviving difficult situations. Nothing throws me off track that easily. Although I have to admit that it was the craziest of all, but I can live with that. I have no choice. What should I do? Scream? Cry? Run away? Kill me?" I asked and had to laugh at the last one myself.

Kate looked at me worried.

"It's nice that you're so tough, but be careful that it doesn't eventually eat you up. You can't just deal with your problems on your own" she said, tapping her fingers on the table. I chewed my lip and looked at the red liquid in my glass. Deep down I knew she was right. Eventually I would it would hit me and then it would blow my mind, but I didn't want to let it come to that, I swore to myself, I'd been through so much in my short life, then I could do it too.

"This is not a situation that lasts for a short time. You have eternity ahead of you" Kate said, snapping me out of my musings. I swallowed and nodded. I'd been trying to push it all away the whole time. That was what I did best, I was sort of a pro at it. I tapped my ring against that crystal glass and then looked back at Kate.

"Why I'm here? You wanted to talk to me." I changed the subject and pushed myself against the back of my chair and crossed my legs. Kate sighed loudly and then rummaged through her stack of documents on the table. Finally she pulled out a sheet of paper and tapped hers pen around it.

"I want to talk to you about your classes. Of course you don't have to go to school anymore. But you'll get a few hours to settle down. Call it history lessons. You'll learn everything about us and yourself. The vampire species. And you get a training plan. Even if you are strong and fast. The primal beings are faster and stronger. There you will also learn how to kill them and how to recognize them" she handed me the paper and a small key.

"You've probably wondered why you can't lock your room," she winked and I put the key to the WiFi password in my pocket. Then I took a closer look at the note. It was a kind of timetable. Two hours in a week of 'history' and six of PE every other day. I cried out inside. I thought I could put all this crap behind me. Art school was the school I wanted to go to. I fold the sheet up and stand on "Was that all?" I then asked, tapping my foot on the floor. I didn't feel comfortable in her presence. At least not now. Kate nodded and I hastily left the room. Outside, I breathed a sigh of relief and made my way upstairs. I pulled my phone out of my skirt pocket and the password. I typed it in and waited for it to connect. As soon as I got there, my iPhone wouldn't stop blinking. Countless messages from Poppy, Lucas and Mia from New York. And ten messages from my brother Jamie. Twenty-five missed calls. Including the school. I held my breath and checked my mailbox.

"Hello Miss Taylor. Since you did not submit the desired documents later, we are unfortunately unable to keep the space free for you. But please try again next year. You would have been a promising candidate. We wish you the best of luck this year"

I sighed and padded down the aisle. I listened to the announcement twice more, mimicking her voice. In my room I sat on the bed and read all the news. First thing I would do is call Poppy. I started a Facetime call and rolled onto my stomach and lay on the bed. It didn't take long for Poppy to accept and I couldn't tell you how nice it was to see her face.

"Oh my goodness Beth. I got so worried when you didn't text or call back. Are you okay?" she asked and I could see the concern in her eyes and hear it in her voice.

"You can't imagine how nice it is to see you" I sighed looking into the camera "Yeah I'm fine Pops. The last few days have been pretty chaotic. There's so much I have to tell you Poppy. It is It's all just so crazy" I shook my head and then sat back up.

"Where are you actually? This isn't your room. where is your dream of a bed The wall behind you is white not brown" my best friend frowned and leaned closer to her phone.

"I'm in some kind of boarding school. This is so crazy Poppy. When I got out of the cab I was kidnapped and woke up in here" I panned the camera to show her the room.

"You became WHAT?" she shrieked at my nearly dropping my iPhone.

"Poppy, that sounds worse than it is. But I can't explain it to you. Not on the phone. I want to tell you privately"

"And why are you in this boarding school?" she asked and I smiled and shook my head.

"I just said I'll tell you later. As soon as I get out of here," I said, standing up and sitting in the chair in front of the desk instead.

Poppy sighed loudly. She didn't like that I was hiding it from her. That's why I had a bad conscience. We told each other everything, no matter what it was. But that wasn't for a phone call. I wanted to tell her personally and also show it. f**k Elijah. She was my best friend and she would keep all the secrets to herself. She always had. That's why she was my girlfriend and has been since childhood.

"Are there at least hot guys where you are?" she changed the subject instead, wagging her eyebrows. How much I loved this girl. I couldn't help but grin.

"Wow Beth. Out with it you b***h. Tell me everything.” Poppy was so excited. When it came to this topic, she could never get enough. She was a hopeless romantic and a very passionate woman. I laughed and shook my head.

"Calm down Poppy. Not what you think. I don't really know many here, but what I've seen so far is really .. delicious. Ai papi" I laughed and bit my bottom lip and fanned myself "Hot" I added and Poppy pretended to faint. I had to giggle and Pops joined in too. It was so good to talk to her.

"Do you have photos?" she then asked, moaning into the camera, which made me laugh again. But then I shook my head, "No, unfortunately not. But you would like them."

"Who would like who?" I heard behind me and turned around, startled. Nick leaned in the door and looked at me with a grin.

"None of your business Nick" I said turning back to Poppy who was staring at me wide-eyed.

"Turn the camera, I want to see him," she whispered. But that wasn't necessary. Nick was already standing behind me, looking over my shoulder at the camera.

"You really have to learn privacy," I admonished him and then turned the phone back to me.

"That was Nick," I said and Poppy fanned herself like I did earlier. I nodded in agreement and looked at Nick, who flopped onto my bed.

"He's really hot," Pops whispered, making moaning noises again. I giggled and covered the speaker.

"Then you should see the other one," I said softly, leaning further forward towards the screen.

"I'm so jealous. There are millions of guys in all of London and nobody's ever been as handsome as he is," she said, pointing over my shoulder. I had to agree with Poppy. But I couldn't compare anyone to Elijah. Although I didn't like him, I could no denying that he was incredibly handsome almost too good to be true and he made me weak and my legs tremble.

"As much as I'd like to keep chatting with you, there's a working society that needs to do something for its money," she teased, pursing her lips.

"Call me when you get home from work" I smiled and waved at the camera.

"Bye Beth"

We hung up and I texted Lucas and my brother. My goodness my brother. Would he also become a vampire like me? Or was he already there and I didn't know? I rest my head on my hands and close my eyes.

"Nice girlfriend you have there"

I turned to Nick and then hopped onto the bed and sat next to him.

"Yes, the best" I admitted and kneaded my hands "I have classes starting tomorrow" I made a gagging noise and let myself fall back on my back.

"That's not so bad Bee. You still have so much to learn about us" he grinned and pointed to himself "What we can do. We're pretty much the coolest thing there is. Even you'll say that when you've got the taste" he grinned and nudged at me

"A vampire's speed, strength, keen sense of smell and hearing, manipulation, seeing in the dark, incredible stamina" he waggled his eyebrows and crossed his arms behind his head "And the very best. Immortality. Eternity in yours hands" The typical Nick grin appeared on his face.

"You are indestructible from now on"

I nodded "I've read vape books and seen movies" I laughed and nudged his shoulder and leaned back "Thanks for always being there for me Nick" I said honestly and looked at him. I was really happy.

"Of course not a problem, even if you find Elijah sexier" he laughed when I looked at him in shock "Don't act like that Bee. I heard it. No matter how softly you speak, I will hear it. But don't worry, your secret is with me secure"

I crossed my arms defiantly over my chest and then glared at him "Nick, you really are an ass" I turned away from him.

"Oh Bee. You will learn that. You hear everything in this house if you focus on it. Everyone who breathes here, every beating heart, every conversation and so much more and believe me. Some things you don't want to hear" he laughed and gave me a little nudge.

"Well, I'll leave you alone now. I'm sure you still have a lot to do or something. Anyway, I have to go now. special case. See you later, fangs," he grinned and disappeared through the door like Flash himself. With a sigh, I fell back and stared at the ceiling. That could be something. I still didn't quite get it all, but I tried not really thinking about it or dealing with it. As soon as something new happened in my life, I took it for granted and ticked it off. I've done it this way for years and it always worked well. I looked around my room and then decided to clean it up again and rearrange it so that it looked more like how I felt and how I was.
