OPENING THE CAN OF WORMS

1057 Words

Xavier's POV "You don't believe I'm innocent, too?" She asked. "Gosh! What was I thinking? I shouldn't have told you. I'm not surprised. No one had ever believed in me, though," she concludes. Poor girl! She doesn't understand the reason for my silence. How do I explain to her that she brought back old memories? Memories that ought to be dead and buried, alongside my dead wife? To change her opinion about me, I move closer. Like a plague, she tossed me aside. Rejection, I detest it. But for Lacy, and for everything she's been through, I won't demonstrate my rage. All she needs right now is support, protection, and assurance of her safety. "I believe you," My voice softens. She turns around to look at me, "What did you just say?" I reaffirm my support for her.
