"Why did you release Brent?" What a silly question! I should have known she was gonna talk about it. Why didn't I see that coming? This gives me a valid reason to settle for the meeting instead. She makes it easier for me to make a decision. Kudos to her.
For a second, I thought I had finally had that moment with my mum. I guess I didn't understand the assignment.
"Mom, not now. I have a meeting with the elders," I toss. There's no better way to escape than this.
"Come back here, son," a commanding tone halts me.
"Don't you dare walk out on me. We're not done having this conversation."
