Zakulo stopped in the entrance and glared at Innerbridge. “Perhaps you should remind yourself who you test, Innerbridge. A career of butchering defenceless civilians has dulled your edge.” Innerbridge didn’t answer. Archsovereign Zakulo slithered out, leaving the chamber ransacked for all but bones and corpses. Innerbridge summoned his soldiers in. Ten janissaries approached, surrounding him at the entrance. “Forsake Jjandiet, what went wrong?” Innerbridge said. Forsake Jjandiet“We don’t know,” one said. “Zharkov and Artrunidar, they volunteered to do the snatch.” “And they knew what to do; kill the two guards posted outside, go in, take everything. I believe that they and the snakes killed each other as much as Zakulo does when they’re at two ends of a room we haven’t seen before.”
