Lucas stood barefoot, eyes closed, his lips parted in concentration. I watched him, my heart hammering with unease. He wanted some air, a break from being on lockdown, but he had wandered like someone was calling for him.
“Lucas,” I called gently. “Don’t go too far, sweetheart.”
“I can feel the wind talking” he said his eyes still shut.
I froze. “What… what do you mean?”
He lifted a hand slowly, and the wind responded. The leaves stirred at his feet and the air danced around his small fingers.
when he opened his eyes they glowed, a faint silver. I stumbled back trying to get hold of something to steady myself
“Lucas…” I heard myself call out.
Lily came out of the house, skipping toward us, until she saw Lucas. Then she stopped.
Her eyes widened and at that moment, I saw it, the same faint silver glimmer in her eyes.
Lucas dropped his hand as if realising what had just happened.
"I'm sorry"
I rushed to him, cradling his cheeks. His eyes had returned to normal. But something inside me had changed forever.
I told Eric everything as we sat together. The children were asleep in the other room but I could still feel the shift in the air, the weight of something scary waking up inside my babies.
“I saw it,” I whispered. “He called the wind. And Lily? her eyes...”
Eric’s jaw was clenched, but he didn’t look shocked. Just deeply… aware. His always unreadable expression now held something else.
“I’ve seen it before,” he said finally. “Long ago"
I nodded. "And?"
“She disappeared. No one ever found her it was like she never existed. Some say she was taken. Others say she ran.” Eric’s voice darkened. “Some believe she was silenced.”
I swallowed hard, the bile in my throat doing more harm than good.
“And now our children....”
“They need training” He said as he gave me a cautious look. “If Vincent finds out what they can do..”
“He’ll use them,” I said, finishing his thought. “Or destroy them.”
Eric nodded grimly. “Exactly.”
I knew this day would come, when I couldn't deny what they were, when I couldn't protect them anymore but it had come sooner than I wanted it
Vincent stood before a map etched into the stone wall his focus was on one red dot.
Eric’s stronghold.
Jax walked up behind him.
Vincent turned. “so?”
“They’re awakening, The bloodlines are surfacing and they are developing abilities.”
“Their powers will destabilize everything we’ve built if left unchecked. But harnessed properly…” Alina said as she stepped into the room.
“They’ll be weapons,” Vincent finished. “Bred to break Eric’s line forever.”
Jax looked up. “How do we get to them? Eric’s doubled the security.”
Vincent smiled.
“We don’t go through Eric,” he said. “We go through Selena.”
I stood at the kitchen window, watching the shadows beyond the clearing.
Lucas sat at the table, sketching with fierce intensity. Lily braided a flower crown beside him.
Eric walked in, his shirt damp with sweat. He looked at me, concern written on his face.
“They're here,” he said softly.
I turned. “What?”
“My scouts caught their scent. Vincent’s men. they’re watching us.”
I instinctively moved closer to the twins. “What do we do?”
“We stay ahead,” Eric said. “We train the children. And we prepare for war.”
As I read to the Twins the light dimmed then it got dark almost immediately. My voice faltered mid-sentence that restless feeling came up again.
Lucas sat bolt upright. “They’re coming.”
“What do you mean?” I whispered.
“I can feel them.”
Lily clutched her brother’s hand. “The forest is afraid.”
Eric burst in seconds later, his eyes glowing.
“We’re breached,” he growled. “Go. Now!”
The attack was fast.
Flames lit the night sky as Vincent’s wolves, half-shifted and bloodthirsty, in. Explosions filled the place, meant to draw Eric’s guards thin.
Alert, I ran with the twins down a reinforced tunnel toward the hidden safe chamber.
“Don’t look back!” I cried, gripping their hands.
“She’s in trouble!” Lucas said, stopping in his tracks
“Who?” I asked with a shaky breath
“Aunt Maya,” he whispered.
“Keep going. I’ll handle it—” Eric shouted
But before we could register anything the side wall of the tunnel exploded.
I screamed and shielded the children as dust clouded the air, through the smoke Vincent's men stepped in.
Two tall rogues with silver eyes and branded scars across their chests.
One of them smiled, a sad maniacal one
“Found you.”
I shoved the children behind me. Eric growled, shifting mid-air, tackling one of the intruders.
“Run!” he shouted.
I didn’t hesitate grabbing the twins I tore down the tunnel. The walls shook as roars echoed. But we kept moving.
At the end of the gunnel, a steel-reinforced door opened to a smaller escape chamber. one of Eric’s men waved us in.
“Hurry!”
As the door slammed shut behind us, I collapsed to my knees, pulling the children into my arms.
“They found us,” I gasped. “They’re inside.”
Marcus nodded
“And so is the Alpha”
Vincent stood just beyond the flames, watching his wolves retreat. They hadn’t breached the innermost chamber. But they had achieved their goal.
They had seen the children. He had caught their scent and could feel their power and he wasn't going to forget it.
Alina approached. “The girl is more powerful than the boy. But together…”
“They’re everything I need,” Vincent murmured.
“And the mother?” Alina asked.
Vincent smirked. “We let her live, for now. When the time comes, she’ll hand them over willingly.”
Hours later, the fires were finally out and the rogues had retreated. Eric returned, bloodied but alive.
But the damage was done.
Five guards dead. Three injured. One missing.
I sat with the children, soothing them, while Eric stood before the rest of the command council.
“How did they get our position? There has to be a mole”
Jaden nodded. “The attack was too precise.”
Eric looked at each face in the room, staring them down.
“We have to find out who’s feeding Vincent our moves.” he said as he turned to face the children. “Because next time… he won’t just come for a fight.”
His eyes lingered where they slept, guarded with steel, steel that might not protect them for long
“Next time… he’ll come to take what’s mine.”
Under the cover of shadows, a shadow moved through the outer compound, his moves precise, undetected.
They slipped through patrol gaps and disabled two cameras.
They opened the supply chest and took out a hidden communicator. Then pressed a button and whispered into the receiver:
“They’re moving the children in two days. Through the west pass. Tell Vincent… now.”
