Road to Nowhere By Mags Hayward The windscreen wipers swept back and forth, their efforts futile against the deluge. What started as spots of rain dotting the windscreen had developed into a full-blown meteorological onslaught, far more savage than the light to moderate April showers forecast on the radio. The rain hammered down and a violent wind battered the hedgerows, bending branches low over the road. Foliage was torn from the trees and tossed asunder. It caught in the wipers and scraped arcs across the windscreen, scratching the glass. Leaning forward, Stella peered anxiously into the darkness.
