The coffee came within minutes and the waitress bowed low, her eyes flickering between the both of us and our whispered voices. “Do you do this often?” I asked as I took a sip from my coffee. “They don’t seem surprised to see you.” “I make it a habit to see my pack and keep a close eye on them.” “Why?” “Why not? I’m just like any of them.” I snorted. “You’re a century old lycan and they’re wolves. You’re not like them.” “True, but that’s why I don’t need to create any more distance than there already is. I need them to trust me, and they can’t trust me if they don’t see me.” It was a beautiful way of looking at things, and I’d never heard anyone say it like that before.
