A different server brought out our food. It was a woman and I saw Elias grin once he realized the man wouldn’t be returning. The woman was careful to not look at either of us in the eyes. She kept her head to the ground and didn’t stay longer than she needed to. I planned to chide him for that, but I momentarily forgot about it the moment I tasted my food. It was better than anything I’d had in my entire life. Then again, for a very long time, I lived off take out and burned food and until I got here, no one had actually ever cooked for me. A small moan left my lips at the burst of flavor on my tongue. “This is so good.” In front of me, Elias stilled. “I’m glad you like it.” His voice was hoarse, and he sounded on edge, but I just couldn’t understand why. “Do you not like your food?
