I took the letter before Isadora had the chance to touch the paper.
The guard bowed, excusing himself from the dining room. I could feel everyone’s eyes on me, waiting to see what the letter was about, but I merely folded it and shoved it into my pockets. I already had an idea what was in there, and Isa didn’t need to see it.
“Elias,” she began but I squeezed her hip; a gentle way of telling her to be quiet. “You have to open it at some point.”
“Not really.”
