Shelter Hunting!

“Big bro. Wake up.”

Alex felt tiny hands shaking his body and tried their best to wake him up. He opens his eyes and saw his brother and they’re in the middle of the forest. He pushed himself to stand up and felt pain in his leg. A paper falls on his hand and he reads it.

‘Survive the apocalypse and find the cure for the zombie virus'

He panicked and looks at his young brother who is hugging his stuffed animal. This is a new challenge for him. This is the first time he doesn’t need to kill people from a challenge. He checks the back of the paper and wide his eyes.

‘The last person to survive the apocalypse wins and the prize is will be given choice to stop playing the game.’

Gripping his paper, he lifts his brother and hugs him tightly. “We will survive…and no longer involve in this world..” He felt his body changing and he’s now in a suit with a sword behind him. He saw his brother with a stick which he finds cute.

He heard a noise and looks behind. Three zombie walk towards them. He starts to run with Leo in hand but then, a zombie appears from their left. Before he could pull out his sword, a stick transforms into long sticks and hits the zombie. The zombie falls and he continues running while his brother smiles at his achievement.

‘Who teaches him that?’

Another zombie appears and he finally had his sword and s***h the body. A group of zombie cornered them and they had nowhere to go. Alex’s power send a signal and he looks up. A figure jumps above them and shoots every zombie. He looks at the person and saw a person with a hoodie and mask.

“Oi. You good?”

He froze as he saw the person remove their hood and reveals their short hair. What surprised him the most is, he thought it was a guy but she had a soft voice. “We can’t stay here. Let’s bring your brother to my shelter. I am Ashton.” She noticed his perplexed expression and grabbed his arms before sprinting to the shelter with her super speed.

“I am a girl. Oh, and called me Ash.”

When his brother is looking at the vegetable growing near the shelter, Alex forms an o with his lips. Ash turn the doorknob and let the brothers in. She removes her mask and takes her towel. She points at an empty room and gave them shirts. “Go change and let your brother rest,” Alex muttered a thank you before enters the room.

There’s a single bed, a table and chair which is enough for them in his opinion. He helps his brother changed and put him to sleep. He removes the sticks from his brother’s hand and the sticks glow in blue colour. He raises his brow before his eyes start showing the image again. He checks at the end of the sticks and presses a button.

Pills come out with a paper. He reads it and wide his eyes. He looks at his younger brother who is staring at him with a dark expression.

“Brother…did you read it?”

Ryan felt not one, but two guns in his pocket. He pulls them and stands next to Teo. A paper appears in front of his face as he reads it. He widened his eyes as he felt his hand starts moving. He starts shooting the zombie and Teo watch with a scythe in his hand. He then marches forwards and starts slicing their body. Ryan starts to control his hand again and he becomes an expert with the gun.

‘New power unlocked: Gun expert’

Ryan sweatdrop as he realizes this is the prize he won after finishing the challenge before. He kills the last zombie and he sighs in relief. Teo was about to complain but then a heavy bag falls on him.

“Ouch-!”

In an instant, Ryan lifts the bag and put it in front of Teo. They saw foods and coins which makes Ryan happy. He takes a loaf of bread and starts to eat. Teo saw a map and starts to read it from the top. He shows the place they currently at and tries to search for a nearby village for a shelter.

Ryan tied the bag behind and they start their journey. On their way, they saw a girl sobbing. Teo shows himself to the girl and the girl straight away screams. “Thalia! Hey! It’s me, Ryan!” Thalia looks behind Teo and hugs him. Teo smirks while Ryan gave him a death stare.

“H-help! A group of wolf chased after me and I sprained my ankle!”

Teo bends down and checks her ankle. Ryan put the girl’s hand around his shoulder and Teo summoned his scythe. He turns and kills three wolves. “How many are they?” Thalia shows ten fingers. Teo wide his eyes and lift both students.

“Eh- Teo?”

“We have to run now Ryan. Next destination Halo Village!”

He runs with both students held onto him as if their life depends on it. Ash enters the room and saw the little brother points his sticks at the older guy. She walks back out and enters her room. “Human these days can’t even stay away from drama.” She sips her juice and wipes her stuff.

Her eyes went to the gun next to her. She reaches for the gun and looks at the mirror. A cute girl stands behind her with a soft smile. “Pull the trigger.” She puts it down and wears her hoodie. “No.” She saw the two boys make up and they sat on the bed in silence.

She went outside and starts picking some vegetable. A rabbit shows up next to her and she stares at it for a while. Leo describes how his father drags him into the game and how the pills provide a strength that can only be used when needed. Alex checks the pills and heard the front door close.

The brothers look at the girl holding a dead bunny with no emotion. “We’re eating meat today.” They sat down for dinner and Alex feeds his brother slowly. Ash looks next to her and saw the reflection again. “Ashy! Aaaa…”

She ignores it and swallows her food. Alex volunteer to wash the dishes so she decides to help him put Leo in bed. She helps Leo with his blanket and walks away. But before she could leave, Leo pulls her hand and she sat down again on the bed.

“What is it?”

“I am scared.”

She starts to felt herself seeing the girl reflection again and she holds his hand.

“Face your fear.”
