Today is Friday. Ava and Soledad were not on duty since it was their day off; they were at home resting, but Soledad noticed that Ava had been staring at her phone for over 30 minutes and was looking worried.
Soledad walked up to Ava and said, “Hey, what's got you so fixated on your phone? Is everything alright?” She asked, staring at the phone.
Ava hesitated for a moment before she picked up the courage to show Soledad the message Ethan sent to her.
“Ethan asked me out for dinner,” she said, her voice coming out like a whisper. ”
Soledad's eyes widened. “Whoooooooo, that's great news. Say yes, what have you been waiting for?”
“I don't know; I mean, he was very rude to me the other day.”
Soledad shrugged it off, waving her hand. "Oh, that was just a mistake. He feels bad about it and is trying to make it right.”
Ava widened her eyes, surprisingly looking at Soledad. “Soledad, do you know him from somewhere??
"Nope, I don't, but he looks like a good guy. Let me see the text.” She was now grinning.
Ava handed over her phone to Soledad as she read the text again. "I'll just send him a quick reply on your behalf,” Soledad said, typing very fast.
Ava tried to grab her phone, but Soledad was very fast. "No, Soledad, I didn't say you could reply!”
"Oops, too late, girl; the message had already been delivered.” She grinned mischievously as she handed back Ava's phone.
Ava widened her eyes in horror as she saw a confirmation that the text had been delivered successfully.
"Omg, what did you do?” She laughed while chasing Soledad.
“Don't worry, girl, I just told him you're looking forward to having dinner with him, and I added a little love emoji to spice things up,” she said, panting.
Ava shook her head, laughing. “You're something else, but Soledad, do you think I should go? I am so scared.” She said it with a worried face.
“Don't be scared of anything, don't let what that bastard did to you stop you from finding happiness, huh?” She said this, hugging her friend.
Ethans office
Ethan was sitting in his office, staring at his phone, anxiously waiting for Ava's reply. He couldn't understand why he was anxious.
He was starting to think that Ava wouldn't reply to him, then his phone rang. He checked and saw his mom calling. He picked up the call reluctantly, feeling disappointed.
“Hey Mom,” he answered, trying to hide his disappointment.
“Hello Sweetheart! I was wondering if you could come over for dinner. I'm making your favorite dish.” His mom said, her voice filled with excitement.
Ethan hesitated before replying, “All right, I will come over,” he said, even though he was not in the mood, but he doesn't want to hurt his mother's feelings.
Though his mom and dad are not together, he still has great respect for them and often visits them. He loves his parents so much.
“How about 6pm?” his mother said.
Ethan nodded, even though his mother couldn't see him. "Okay, ma, I'll be there.”
Just then Gabriel walked in with a smirk on his face and said, “Hey buddy, what's happening? You look like you're waiting for something or someone.”
Ethan heaved a deep breath, keeping the phone on his desk.
“I'm just waiting for Ava's reply, the girl from the coffee shop. It's been almost a week now, and she hasn't replied.” He replied, feeling frustrated already.
Gabriel widened his eyes, surprisingly. “The girl you are rude and harsh to? What's her name again?”
Ethan cringed. Her name is Ava. I felt so bad about what I did, so I asked her out to dinner to make up for it.”
Gabriel nodded. “Be patient and calm down, she will reply. I'm sure she's thinking about it or maybe playing hard to get."
"But it's been almost a week now."
Wait, you've never been this anxious since I knew you. I think she's the one you will finally settle down with?”
Ethan snorted, “You mean I should settle down? No, no, no, I just want to have a little fun; don't be ridiculous.” He was laughing nervously.
“I'm sure you're. Keep lying to yourself. The way your eyes light up when you're talking about Ava shows you feel something for her,” he said, grinning from ear to ear.
“Keep dreaming,” Ethan said, laughing.
Just then, Ethan's phone buzzed. He picked it up, hoping it was Ava's reply, and to his delight, it was.
“Hey Ethan,” her text read. I'd love to go out to dinner with you on Saturday. What time and where??
Ethan's heart skipped a beat; he couldn't believe she agreed to go out with him.
“You look so excited, man. What happened??” He asked curiously.
“Ava agreed to go out with me,” he said joyfully.
“Omg, really, she agreed to go out with you even though you made her cry?? Oh wow, this is interesting.”
"Yes, it is; I didn't expect her to agree after all I did to her,” Ethan replied.
“Bro! That girl must have been an angel, would love to meet her someday,” he said cheerfully.
“Yes, you will; she's so kind, smart, and also very beautiful. He praised her.
"Uh, uh, uh, it looks like someone is already falling in love,” Gabriel said, teasing his friend.
“Me in love?” maybe I can't say. But I like her.”
Ethan smiled, feeling excited and nervous about his date with Ava. “Maybe you're right, Gabriel; after that day, I couldn't stop thinking about her. I can't wait to see what happens next.”
Gabriel grinned, patting Ethan on the back. “That's the spirit, man! I'm happy you're trying to give love a chance.”
Ethan laughed, feeling a sense of hope and possibilities.
Gabriel looked at his watch. “I have to go now; I have somewhere to be. Make sure to dress fine and be your charming self.”
“Bye buddy, Talk to you later.”
And with that, Gabriel left Ethan's office. He left him wondering what his date with Ava would look like.
Ethan closed from work around 5 p.m. and went directly to his mother's house. On arrival, he saw a car that was not his mother's, which made him wonder who had that car, but he shrugged the thought off and went inside the house.
As he stepped inside, he saw someone sitting on the couch, looking at him intensively. She's the one person he never thought he would see again. And then she spoke, “We need to talk about what happened years ago. I have been waiting for you, and here you are.” She said hugging him.
