THE WEALTHY FAMILY
CHAPTER 2: "1 year Contract Marriage"
The rain was freezing.
Ha-rin stood in front of the black Genesis with Ji-woo asleep in the carrier against her chest. Her one duffel bag was soaked. Tae-joon’s apartment door was closed behind her. Blocked number. No money. No home.
Across from her, Fu Ji-hoon did not move.
His black umbrella blocked the rain, but not the cold in his eyes.
Behind him: 4 bodyguards in black suits. One lawyer holding a thick folder.
"Get in the car, Ms. Yoon," Ji-hoon said. His voice had no warmth.
Ha-rin clutched Ji-woo tighter. "Why are you here? What do you want from me?"
Ji-hoon’s lawyer stepped forward and opened the folder.
"CEO Fu has proof that you are carrying his biological son. DNA 99.99%."
He showed her the paper. Donor #0047. Fu Ji-hoon.
Ha-rin’s knees felt weak. "That... that’s impossible. Tae-joon said it was his..."
"Tae-joon lied," Ji-hoon cut her off. "He used my sperm from 2 years ago. This is fraud. But I am not here for the police."
He looked at Ji-woo. For one second, something flickered in his cold eyes.
Then it was gone.
"You have two options," Ji-hoon said. "Option 1: I take custody of my son. You sign away all rights. You get 50 million won and disappear."
Ha-rin shook her head instantly. Tears fell. "No. He’s mine too."
"Option 2," Ji-hoon continued like he didn’t hear her.
"1 Year contract marriage. You move into my mansion in Hannam-dong. You pretend to be my wife. You raise Ji-woo as a Fu. In return: 3 billion won. Hospital bills paid. Apartment for your grandmother. And you keep visitation rights after 1 year."
The lawyer handed her the contract. 20 pages.
Clause 1: No love. No touching. Separate rooms.
Clause 2: Must attend 3 family events per month as "Mrs. Fu".
Clause 3: If you break contract, you pay 10 billion won penalty.
Clause 4: After 6 months, divorce. Ji-woo stays with Fu family.
Ha-rin looked down at Ji-woo. His tiny face. He was so small.
She thought of the 45 million won hospital bill. Of Aunt Kim’s borrowed blanket. Of sleeping on the floor tonight.
"Why?" she whispered. "Why me? You can hire a nanny."
Ji-hoon was quiet for 3 seconds.
"Because the board wants an heir and a wife. And because..." he paused. "Because he has my eyes."
Rain dripped from his umbrella onto the contract.
"24 hours to decide, Ms. Yoon. My driver will come tomorrow 9am."
He got into the car. The window rolled up.
As the Genesis drove away, Ha-rin stood in the rain holding Ji-woo and a contract worth 3 billion won.
That night she didn’t sleep.
Aunt Kim came over with seaweed soup. "Ha-rin-ah... what will you do?"
Ha-rin looked at Ji-woo sleeping. "I’ll sign, Auntie. For him."
9am the next day.
The driver was there. Black suit. Black umbrella.
Ha-rin had one bag. Ji-woo. And the signed contract.
The Hannam-dong mansion was bigger than her whole neighborhood. Marble floors. 3 floors. A nursery already set up with a crib, bottles, and a note: For Fu Ji-woo.
The housekeeper bowed 90 degrees. "Welcome, Madam."
Ha-rin flinched. "I’m not—"
"Contract says you are," the housekeeper said gently.
At 7pm, the front doors opened.
Fu Ji-hoon walked in. Still in his black coat. Still cold.
He looked at Ha-rin standing awkwardly in the living room holding Ji-woo.
Then at the contract on the table with her signature.
"Good," he said. "Dinner is at 8. We have a charity gala tomorrow. You will be on my arm as Mrs. Fu."
He turned to go upstairs.
Paused.
"Don’t make me regret this, Ms. Yoon."
The doors closed.
Ha-rin looked at Ji-woo. Then at the huge empty mansion.
"The Wealthy Family," she thought, "just became my prison... and my only hope."
Do you love it?
