CHAPTER SIX

Love Richmond It was on the weekend and usually Wayne would take Nick and I to different adventures, today it was a picnic then a waterpark. “Mom!” Nick yelled. “What is it sweetie?” I asked as I packed our picnic basket. “I can’t find the picnic blanket!” He yelled. I finished what I was doing and went to help him find it. I was sure it was together with everything else for the picnic but it wasn’t. I looked around but didn’t find it. “We should ask Wayne to bring a picnic blanket!” Nick said excitedly. “No sweetie. I ‘m sure we can find another blanket here.” I said looking around then I heard the doorbell ring. “I’ll get it!” Nick said excitedly as he ran towards the door. “Careful!” I warned as I followed him but he was already at the door but it wasn’t who I was expecting. “Daddy?” Nick announced in a low confused tone. “Hello little man.” Quin said all smiles as he carried Nick into the house, a mysterious woman entered after him. “How have you been?” Quin asked Nick. “Good.” Nick said still confused. He had been asking for his dad and I didn’t want to lie to him so I told him the truth, I didn’t know where he was. “I know you must have been wondering where I have been, so, how about we spend the day together with my friend here and we can talk and eat everything you want. Does that sound great?” Quin asked Nick. “Mom and I already have plans with Wayne.” Nick said just as Wayne walked in. “I’m sorry, I’m late but I made sure to bring…” Wayne stopped mid-sentence when he saw Quin, “what are you doing here?” Wayne asked as he glared at Quin. “I came to see my son who told me about your plans. I hope you don’t mind if Ivy and I join you, it would be like killing two birds with one stone. I get to spend time with my son without disrupting your plans.” Quin said with a smile as he put his hand around the lady he called Ivy, who seemed uncomfortable with the atmosphere with the room. “Quin maybe this isn’t a good idea.” Ivy whispered to Quin but the silence in the room made her whisper loud enough for us to hear. “Maybe your friend is right.” Wayne agreed as he looked at me. Quin also looked at me, “I’m sure Love would want me to spend more time with Nick.” He said. I sighed, “I don’t mind.” I answered the unasked question that was lingering in the room, “we better get going, we are wasting daylight.” I said, “Wayne would you help me find the picnic blanket? I seem to have misplaced it.” “Sure.” Wayne agreed as he followed me to the little storage room. “You don’t have to accept his suggestion if you don’t want to.” Wayne said, “we could cancel and do it next weekend.” He suggested. “Quin is Nick’s father and at some point he will have to see his son. I just don’t want to delay the inevitable.” I said as I grabbed another blanket. “Let’s just use this one.” I said as I neatly folded it. We got to the park, I had to stop Wayne from having to make the picnics too lavish. With all the food that he gathered that we couldn’t finish, it seemed pretty wasteful when I could make a picnic lunch at home. “Mom, let’s go to the swings!” Nick said excitedly dragging me to the direction of the swings. “Wayne will you be okay…” Before I could finish my statement. “You go ahead.” Wayne said as he started taking things out of the car. We got to the swings, “I want to go first.” I said with a pout, “you always go first and I never get to enjoy the swing.” Nick chuckled, “you’re too heavy mom. I can’t push you.” He said. “I know,” I chuckling, “maybe I’ll ask Wayne to push me later.” I said as Nick sat on the swing set. I was pushing Nick on the swing when he suddenly asked, “Mom are you sad that dad is back?” I cleared my throat, “no sweetie. He is your father and he will always be a part of my life and especially yours.” “I like Wayne. He makes you smile unlike daddy.” Nick said. “I also like Wayne but Quin is still your daddy and he has been through a lot so try and be nicer to him, okay honey?” I asked. “I will mom.” Nick answered, “now push me higher!” He yelled excitedly. Wayne came and took us back to have our little picnic lunch with the company of Ivy and Quin. “So, Ivy, how long have you known Quin?” Wayne asked, it was like he read my mind. I was curious to know whether Quin was only man to me or all the ladies he has been with. “Not long. For about two weeks?” Ivy said looking at Quin. “Yes, roughly two weeks.” Quin agreed. “How long have you known Love?” Ivy asked. “Almost two or three years.” Wayne said as he looked at me and smiled, “from the moment I laid my eyes on her, I just fell in love.” He placed his hand on mine and the warmth that radiated from his hand made me feel as though he was telling me how much he loved me. “Nick, how is school?” Quin asked suddenly as though he was trying to ruin the mood. “It’s awesome. I get to learn something new every day.” Nick said excitedly, “like we learned about sharks, so Wayne took me to see the sharks and I took a lot of pictures which I showed to my friends and they were excited to see a photo of me with the sharks.” “That sounds fun.” Quin answered in a bored tone. “You seem like a very clever and curious boy.” Ivy commented trying to lighten the mood. “That he definitely is.” I said, “you have no idea the amount of questions I have to answer every day.” I chuckled. “It’s normal thing for a child his age to want to know about everything.” Ivy commented. “You talk like a psychiatrist.” Wayne commented. “I am one.” Ivy said proudly. We were trying to create conversation which was becoming awkward by the minute, we weren’t used to have another party in our little picnic so it was kind of an adjustment. We left to go to the waterpark, I was kind of hoping by now Quin would have left but he seemed determined to make this day even more awkward. We had gotten tickets for different rides when I saw someone I didn’t expect to see here. “Wayne isn’t that your workmate?” I asked pointing at Valeria, “is she following us around?” Wayne sighed, “I’ll take care of this.” He said as he walked towards her. Wayne Robinson I approached Valeria, “this is getting kind of exhausting, don’t you think?” I asked her. “This is the only language you understand.” Valeria countered, “maybe if you agreed to see your child and I, I wouldn’t have to be following you around.” “So, you have been following me around?” I asked with a smirk. “For a mother you sure have a lot of time in your hands.” “All I want is for my child to know who her father is.” Valeria said, “maybe I should give talking to Love one more time, mother to mother.” She threatened. I snickered, “how exactly did that go the last time you tried?” I asked, “oh, yeah she had you dragged out of her office and out of the building.” Valeria looked at Love and her son, Quin was trying to cozy up to Love while I was stuck here dealing with this lady who wouldn’t leave me alone. “Here is the thing, I want to have a DNA test done on this child that you claim is mine, once it proves that it is really mine then I’d be more involved.” “What are you insinuating?” Valeria asked folding her hands acting all offended. “I wasn’t insinuating anything; I was stating a fact. I don’t trust your word that this kid is my child do I need to prove it first.” I cleared it up. Valeria attempted to slap me but I grabbed her hand before it could reach my face, I narrowed my eyes at her then smirked, “too dramatic even for you.” I said. She pulled her hand away from my grasp, “I will have someone come and collect the DNA from the child. You better not try to pin a child that isn’t mine on me. You haven’t seen the other side of me and trust me you aren’t going to like it.” “Are you threatening me?” She asked. “No, I’m telling you.” I said then I walked away leaving here standing there.
