CHAPTER SEVEN

Love Richmond When Wayne left Quin appeared beside me almost immediately, “I don’t want to have him raise my son.” Quin said. “I’m sorry?” I asked taken aback by his statement. “Nick is my son and we are still married. I believe that the rules of marriage still apply, I have every right to decide what or who my son associates with.” Quin proudly said as he held his head up high. I scoffed, “you have the nerve to…” But before I could actually give him a piece of my mind, Ivy came. “Love, how about we get Nick some ice cream, huh?” She asked and I looked at her confused, she nodded slightly. I took a deep breath, I looked at Nick who seemed to be enjoying her ride. The ice cream stand was a few feet away from us, “sure. Why not.” I responded with a forced grin. I ordered an ice cream, so did Ivy. We stood there in silence as we waited for our order, I looked at Ivy who was already staring at me, “why has Quin told you about me?” I wondered out of curiosity. “Not much.” Ivy responded with a shrug. “That little that he has told you, what was it?” I persisted. Ivy sighed, “he doesn’t have to tell me to know that there is a lot of unresolved issues between the two of you.” We took our ice creams, “you clearly think that Quin is putting up a charade in order to get close to you then he will fall back into his old ways. Yet he thinks he is putting too much effort to try and make it work between the two of you, yet he is unknowingly falling back to his old behavior. Thus, you think he hasn’t changed at all and that his story of seeking help is a lie.” Ivy explained. “It’s like you read my mind. He hasn’t changed, he’s still as controlling as ever and he wants everything to happen the way he wants it that’s why you are here with us.” I licked my ice cream, “no offense.” I added. Ivy chuckled, “none taken. But maybe you should tell him your stand on your relationship, maybe then he won’t have to try to put in so much effort into something you clearly don’t care about.” She suggested. I looked at her, “you have given me something to think about, Ivy. Thank you for being calm and collected about this.” I thanked her and joined Wayne and Quin just in time as Nick got out of the ride. “You have ice cream at the corner of your mouth.” Wayne pointed out as he slowly brought his hand to my mouth, the moment his hand touch the corner of my mouth I held my breath. He intentionally brushed his finger on my lips, my eyes flattered shut until I felt his hand move from my face. I looked at him, his eyes filled with desire, a smile on his face. I never thought that I could feel love just by looking at someone but somehow Wayne had the ability to make me feel loved with just one look. “Can we go now? Or do you still want to ogle at each other?” Nick asked and we both looked at him then back at each other and chuckled awkwardly. “Sure. Where do you want to go buddy?” Wayne asked as he lifted Nick up. “I also want ice cream!” He yelled excitedly, making us chuckle. “Then ice cream it is.” Wayne agreed as we went back to the ice cream stand. Wayne had been patient, understanding and supportive of both Nick and I without asking anything in return. I didn’t know what I want but as I stood back and watched Wayne be a father to Nick, playing with him, loving him, I knew that was what it felt like being loved, not what I had to experience with Quin. “Mom!” Nick yelled getting me out of my daze. “Wayne want to know if you want another ice cream.” Nick and Wayne smiled at me. I shook my head, “this one is fine with me.” I lifted my ice cream and licked it. Nick was holding a huge ice cream cone, “yours look so good.” I commented with a pout. “Here. Taste it.” Nick offered. I licked it, I moan, “why didn’t you come and pick one for me?” I asked chuckling. “You were impatient and didn’t want to wait for me.” Nick said, and Wayne and I laughed. He sounded like a grown up. “When did you become so wise?” I asked. “He takes after his dad.” Quin joined us, as he took Nick from Wayne. Wayne just let go, no need to start up drama for no reason I guess. “What do you want to do now?” He asked Nick. “Do you have a swim suit?” Nick asked in a cheeky smile. “Why?” Quin asked. “We are going to have a chicken fight!” Nick yelled excitedly. “We are?” Wayne and I asked in unison. “Yes we are. Now everyone should have their swim suits.” Nick yelled as he danced excitedly, with him squirming Quin put him down. Nick ran off and Wayne followed him, Quin was about to follow when I grabbed his hand. He stopped and looked at me, “is there a problem?” He asked. “Today has made me see everything in a different light. Also your girlfriend has really helped me visualize what is happening with us. I think we should create time and talk, how about I drop by your office on Tuesday? Is that okay with you?” I asked. Quin smiled, “I think we also need to talk. Tuesday is fine.” He agreed and we both went to join the rest on this chicken fight thing. Quin McDaniel I have been waiting for Tuesday to come, I had even asked Elle to make sure that I didn’t have any meetings that day. I called Ivy, “Good morning Ivy.” I said cheerfully. “You seem to be in a good mood and very happy.” She commented. “I am. Today is the day I am to meet with Love and I have a good feeling about it.” I poured myself a cup of coffee. “You don’t even know what she is coming to talk to you about.” Ivy responded. “I know but I have a good feeling that everything is going to go back to the way it was, Love, Nick and I together as a family again and it’s all thanks to you.” I said excitedly. Ivy chuckled, “I doubt the one time you took me to meet her made any difference Quin.” “I mean Love told me what you did, you helped her see that I was the best man for her and that our family was important.” “I did?” Ivy asked confused. “Of course she didn’t say those exact words but she said you helped her see things in a different light.” I answered as I looked at my watch. I running late and I didn’t want to have to keep Love waiting. “Quin, sometimes relationships…” Ivy started saying. “I’m sorry but we’ll have to continue this conversation later. I have to go. Thank you once more.” I hanged up got my jacket and left to the office. When I got there Elle approached me, “Good morning sir.” She greeted me. “I’m having a very good morning, how about your morning?” I asked. “It’s… um… it’s good sir.” Elle stuttered. “Did you make sure I didn’t have any meeting today?” I asked. “Yes sir, I cleared your schedule for today but sir, there is this woman in your office.” Elle said. I looked at my watch it was still about thirty minutes to my meeting with Love, “has she been waiting long?” I asked as I walked to my office. “No sir.” Elle responded. “Thank you.” I said as she went back to her desk. I adjusted my suit and tie before plastering a smile and walking into my office hoping to see Love but the woman in my office was, “Ursula?” I asked surprised. “What are you doing here?” I asked as I closed the door behind me. “I came to check on you. I heard you were back in town and I thought we would catch up and maybe do a little more.” Her sultry voice implied what she meant. “Maybe now that you don’t have to go back to your wife, we could have an extremely fun night.” “I’m trying to get my wife back and you shouldn’t be here.” I said as I placed my briefcase on my desk. She walked towards me, “even better. You were way more interesting when you were married.” She played with my tie. I took it away from her, “I’m not doing this with you now. Please leave.” I said as I was to walk away when she pushed me on the chair and she sat on my lap and played around with my hair. “How about you kiss me and I can remind you about the fun times we had.” She whispered in my ear as she gently nibbled on it. I could feel myself getting aroused, it had been a while since I had a lady on bed let alone on my lap. I looked at her, then I grabbed her by her hair and kissed her passionately. “I guess I was right; you really haven’t changed.” I heard Love say. I pushed Ursula away from me and stood up with the bulge on my pants, I took a file from the desk and covered it. “It’s not what it looks like Love.” I was still loopy from the kiss I had shared with Ursula. “Really?” Love asked with a raised eyebrow, “because it looks like you were kissing her.” She pointed at Ursula who was leaning on the seat. “I’m guessing you’re Ursula? The lady he was having an affair with when I was at home being a dutiful wife?” “I wouldn’t know.” Ursula said. Love chuckled, “I was right. I would never forget that voice.” She commented. Ursula stood up, “I will excuse the two of you to… do whatever it is you want to do.” She adjusted her dress. “Don’t bother. What I need to do won’t take long.” Love said as she got an envelope from her handbag, “divorce papers. You should sign them.” She dropped them on the coffee table and was about to walk out. When I grabbed her wrist, “what do you mean?” I growled. “I mean I want to end our marriage so you don’t always have to remind me of it every time.” Love looked me in the eye not backing down. “Listen to me,” I started to say. Love grabbed my hand that was on her wrist and pulled it away, “no, you listen to me, this should be the last time you can ever use force on me. You don’t own me or Nick and after what you put me through this marriage was over the moment you laid your hand on me.” She hissed, “send me the papers once you have signed them.” She opened the door. “I’ll never sign these papers Love! Never!” I yelled at her as she walked away. I felt frustrated, I grabbed a lamp and smashed it on the wall. This isn’t how I expected today to play out.
