I was led to the square, where a number of maids stood.
Gladys sat on the dais with the three elders. She was crying beautifully, her eyes were red, and a few full tears fell out as the elders asked questions.
"These are the maids who had contact with the lady before the jewel was lost now you will be searched."
The lead maid pushed and shoved us to undress. The elders and the lady were here, so we couldn't resist. I took off my apron and dress and was left with my shirt and petticoats.
That's not what I'm worried about. I'm just now realizing that my moonstone is exactly the same as Gladys'. What if they falsely accuse me of theft once they search it out?
