The Morning After

( Sandra wakes up feeling sore, she could hardly recall what happened, she wasn't drunk; but she was confused.She was trying to figure out what happened.)

Sandra- uhhh, what I'm I doing here?, where I'm I?, Nancy?? Nancy, ( she tried getting up but felt a very sharp pain that made her sit right back on the bed.) Ahhh, ( then she looked between her legs where she had felt the pain and then she recollected her memories from last night. Sandra- I'm Fine, I just need some peace and quiet, I'm sorry I got you all worried.

Nana, I'm in my room, has she had breakfast yet??

Nelson- Yea, she didn't want to eat, I had to convince her you were fine.

Grandma- I'm glad you're ok Darling.

Sandra- Thanks Nana.

( she went to her room, made her bath, and soaked herself in it, she felt like screaming, she felt like scrubbing her inside to wash of his scent, she was in pain, she was in regret.)

THE BREAK ROOM

( Sandra reached the hospital gates by 9:30 am, thirty minutes late, the Senior nurse's eyes were already on her.)

Senior nurse- where were you? we've been covering for you.

( she nodded, said nothing, then she saw Nancy smiling by the nurse's station, like

nothing happened. Her stomach twisted, she turned away and couldn't even look at her.)

The break room door clicked shut behind her, Nancy was already there, leaning against the counter with two cups of tea.

Nancy - There you are,( said Nancy forcing a smile,) I've been wanting to talk to you all day.

Sandra- ( she didn't take the cup,she just stood in the doorway, arms crossed.)

Nancy- It was just a drink, I thought you needed to......

Sandra - You left me there,( her voice was slow and shaking) You walked out and didn't even check if I was safe and I don't know who I am any more.

Nancy - ( Nancy's smile fell) I didn't think anything bad would happen,

Sandra- indeed, ( Sandra turned to leave then stopped, without looking back, she said: Don't call me .Don't talk to me.Not until I decide if I can even stand to look at you again)

Nancy - ( Nancy froze, she watched her as she left).

The clock hits 6:00 pm, the reception area was empty now, only the night-shift nurses remained.

Sandra walked past Nancy without a word, keys jingling, Nancy didn't call out, she couldn't.

Sandra- ( the bus was crowded and loud, she felt like she was underwater. Every stop, every face, it all blurred. Her Grandma's Cough, Her brothers debt, Lorenzo's hands, she pressed her forehead against the cold window,)

- How did I get here.

CRIME AND OBSESSION

The office smelled of cigar smoke and old leather, maps of shipping routes were spread across the Mahogany table.

Don Romeno, Lorenzo's father begins to speak.

Don Romeno- The shipment moved through Naples port at midnight, ( his father say tapping the paper with a gold ring.)

- No mistakes. I'll see you tomorrow, make sure nothing goes wrong.

Lorenzo- ( Nods as his father leaves the Mansion.)

Eyes distant, her eyes, he couldn't get his mind of the way she looked at him that night, with passion and fear, and mostly she was pure, a virgin, he never imagined he would feel so connected to someone he just met.

Paulo his body guard noticed him thinking.

Lorenzo pours two glasses of whiskey, slid one to Paulo, but didn't drink his yet.

Lorenzo -( Lorenzo stares into the amber liquid)

Paulo- Do you know her name??

Lorenzo - It was a one night stand , how would I know her name. You brought her to me, I suppose you can recall her face?
