"No! Please let them go! I will take their place. I will bare the burden. Just let them go unharmed, please," I was on my knees in front of a wooden door with steel bars and crying trying to hold on to my mothers hand. She was crying as well, but my father just sat holding her to his chest.
"You? You must be joking," came a reply from the darkness. "Why would you take the place of common thieves? They have done nothing but lie to you your whole life and this is what you want to do for them?" I heard a loud crash, but stood up trying to be brave.
"Yes, I would do anything to save them. Please, just take me instead," I said looking into the darkness. All I could see was an outline of someone or something big. I couldn't make out any details. I don't even know how I got here in the first place, but it felt so real. The only problem was I saw this scene somewhere and I don't know where.
"Fine! Do you promise to stay here forever and obey my every command?" it or he asked. I swallowed my pride and stood taller than I felt with tears still streaming down my cheeks.
"Yes," was all I could say without my voice cracking.
"Then it is done!" he roared as he moved pass me to open the door, but I couldn't even say goodbye to my parents as they were swept away to a coach with no horse or coach men. I cried in the tower as I saw my parents leave.
When the monster returned he just stood there watching me with no sympathy in his eyes until he saw the tears. "I'll show you to your room," he said. I was shocked. 'I thought I was a prisoner and where going to stay in the tower for the rest of my life. What game is he playing?'
"Why?" was all I asked. "First you won't let me even say goodbye to my parents and now you show sympathy? Why do you care if I am comfortable all of the sudden?"
"Look, it's been a long night for all of us. Would you just follow me and get this done with? Your parents did you a favour in leaving you here. You will be fed and clothed and looked after. Why aren't you happy?"
"Oh I don't know, maybe because my whole life just got turned upside down. Maybe because my parents just got taken away from me. I don't know, you tell me."
"Just follow me or stay in the tower for all I care!" he roared again. I froze. My blood running cold in my veins. I have never been so afraid in my life. Never.
He turned with a huff and started walking away. I still sat on the ground unable to move when I suddenly got a hold of my senses again. I jumped up and ran after him.

I jolted awake and sat up. My breath chasing and my heart pounding wildly in my chest. I looked at my phone and saw it was past nine in the morning and I decided to get up. I took a quick shower and grabbed the nearest and cleanest clothes I could find before heading down stairs for breakfast. Mom was already making some eggs and toast when I got in the kitchen.
"Morning sweetheart, eggs are almost done. Have a seat. Your father will be down any minute now." I went to take seat when I heard my dad coming in.
"Morning mom. Morning dad. Where are you going today?" I asked my dad like usual.
"Just in town today, honey. Need to get a few things done at the office before heading to the big city. Do you have any plans for today?"
I shrugged as I stuffed some eggs in my mouth, but I caught the look that passed between mom and dad before I took a sip of my juice.
"Nothing special. Just going to be here or hang out with my friends. I can't decide."
