I had been to Dis once before. It was the biggest city in Hell—the only city for all I knew. It was where all of Hell’s monsters resided, from the demons who tortured lost souls to the orcs that pulled our carts to the pits of Hell, and other fairy folk who were hunted to extinction on Earth thousands of years ago and wound up in Hell.
Dis was an intersection of worlds, where medieval thatched roofs butted up against the modern skyscrapers like the one Charlie lived in with his two children. Demons who worked assignments on Earth preferred the conveniences of the modern world, while those who hadn’t left Hell in centuries felt more at home in the thatched homes and cobblestone streets of the past.
