Chapter 6 The road to the pits was a long one, and with every turn of the wheels we passed more demons shoveling souls into heaps on either side of the road. The last time I was in Hell the bodies stacked like mountains into the tips of Hell, but it was even worse now. Now, the body piles blotted out the fires all around us. I had seen the agonized souls before—twice, in fact—but I wasn’t ready to be one. Not yet. Part of me thought that I was in a worse position than anyone else in my caravan. At least they didn’t know what they were about to experience. They could deny, lie to themselves. They could hope for reprieve even though there would be no reprieve for them.
