Chapter 1
“Duck!” I shouted as the three-headed demon dog lunged at Kimberly.
Kimberly stooped down to avoid the dog’s snarling heads and bloody paws. The dog wanted to get outside, which meant smashing through the front door that Kimberly guarded. It came close to slicing her arm, but she dropped a pinch of pixie dust just in time. She vanished into thin air and reappeared across the room, behind me.
“I told you to duck!”
“And I decided to try it another way, Julia!”
It had been eight years since I’d taken Kimberly under my wing. In that time, she’d grown to be quite the expert in martial arts and even better at fighting monsters.
