Gabrina felt her face grow warm, then lowered her eyes to the floor. “I like you just fine, Jack,” she assured him. “But there are certain matters of protocol. I should discuss this with Director Morane first.”
He turned on his heel.
Marching past her, he shot a glance over his shoulder and flashed a wicked smile. “Well, I"ll just head down to the Commons,” he said on his way out the door. “You get all the juicy gossip down there anyway.”
Jena Morane leaned against the desk with arms crossed, watching the whole thing with a thoughtful expression. “Don"t mind him,” she said. “Some people are sticklers for the rules, but that boy isn"t one of them.”
“And you trust him?”
“You"ll find, Agent Valtez,” the other woman began, “that I"m not much of a stickler for the rules either.”
