A Chance Encounter

Ava's conversation with Ada lingered in her mind long after their lunch date. She couldn't shake off the feeling that her friend was right – she did deserve happiness. As she walked back to her office, Ava felt a sense of determination wash over her. She would focus on her work and leave the past behind. The next day, Ava received an invitation to a high-profile charity gala at the prestigious Eko Hotel. Her company was one of the sponsors, and she had been tasked with overseeing the event's logistics. As she arrived at the venue, Ava's eyes scanned the room, taking in the familiar faces of Lagos' elite. That's when she saw him – Ryan Okoro, standing by the stage, chatting with a group of musicians. Ava's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met across the room. It had been years since she'd last seen him, but the spark between them was still palpable. Ryan's eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Ava felt like she was transported back to their high school days, when Ryan's gaze could melt her heart with a single glance. As the music started, Ryan excused himself from the group and made his way toward Ava. She felt a mix of emotions – excitement, nervousness, and a hint of fear. What was she supposed to say to him after all these years? "Ava," Ryan said, his deep voice sending shivers down her spine. "It's been a long time." Ava smiled, trying to play it cool. "Ryan. You're looking well." They exchanged small talk, catching up on each other's lives. Ava learned that Ryan was now a successful musician, and she shared her experiences as an event planner. The conversation flowed easily, like no time had passed at all. As they talked, Ava noticed the way Ryan's eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled. It was a familiar gesture that brought back a flood of memories. She felt herself getting lost in his gaze, just like she used to. Ryan, too, seemed to be enjoying their reunion. He asked her questions about her life, listening intently to her responses. Ava felt seen and heard, like she was the only person in the room. As the night wore on, Ava realized she was having more fun than she'd had in months. Maybe it was the music, or maybe it was Ryan's charming smile, but she felt alive again. As the gala came to a close, Ryan walked Ava out of the venue. The Lagos night air was warm and humid, filled with the sounds of the city. They stood outside, reluctant to part ways. "I'd love to catch up more," Ryan said, his eyes sparkling with interest. "Would you like to grab coffee with me sometime?" Ava's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't expected this, but a part of her wanted to say yes. "I'd like that," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. Ryan smiled, and Ava's heart fluttered. She had a feeling that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't imagine.
