Kaelen and Lioren stood before a towering archway hidden deep within the heart of the capital—a construct of stone and light, older than memory itself. This was the Waygate, the first of many that would lead them across the Veil to find their lost kin. “Are we ready?” Lioren asked, adjusting the obsidian grip on his bow. Kaelen’s katana gleamed beneath the swirling light. “Not completely. But if we wait any longer, we might lose more of them.” They stepped through the arch together. --- On the other side, the world was bathed in crimson sky. Trees hung upside down, cities floated in fragments, and stars blinked even at midday. This realm was called T’Nora, the first place where refugees from the Ancient Kingdom had vanished generations ago. The moment the twins stepped onto the broken soil, they felt it—a heartbeat. Faint, but familiar. Someone from their bloodline had survived here. But something else had, too. --- In the city of shattered spires, they were met by resistance: twisted guardians of bone and iron who spoke no words and bled shadows. The battle was instant. Lioren moved with quiet precision, his arrows slicing through the air with firelight trailing. Kaelen danced between ruins, his katana an extension of his will. They moved as one—wolf and vampire, light and dark. When the dust cleared, they stood before a crumbling temple. Inside, hidden beneath spell-laced stone, lay the first of their people—a small enclave of elders, blood-marked and cloaked in years of fear. “You came,” one of them whispered. “The sons of the marked one... of Araya.” Kaelen bowed. “We’re here to bring you home.” --- But even as they reunited with the lost kin, the winds changed. A darkness rose behind them—familiar, hungry, ancient. Lioren felt it first. His bow snapped to his side. “Something followed us through the gate.” Kaelen turned. “Then we finish this fast. We have more worlds to reach.” The next gate shimmered open. And the journey continued. (To be continued)
