The Creeper

Macy:   Macy looked at the line of people waiting to enter the club. A rope kept everyone in order and two intimidating bouncers stood at the entrance. She dreaded waiting in the long line. When the taxi stopped in front of the club, the guys got out. Ian held a hand out to help Marie. When she was on the sidewalk with Max, Ian held his hand out to her. Macy let him help her, but her skin crawled while he rubbed his thumb across her knuckles. She smiled to cover a gag. His touch made her need to vomit. She thought her own reaction was excessive but could not control it.  The guy was a creep.   Macy thought they would head to the back of the line to wait, but Max surprised her when he walked to the front of the line and smiled at the bouncer. He said something and waved toward their group. The bouncer unclipped the rope and let them pass.  Briefly, Macy wondered what Max said to get them in, or how he knew the bouncer, but she lost interest in that when she made it through the door.    Inside the music blared. A short entrance hall, with a place to check coats, opened into a massive room where neon lights flashed. There was a bar on the back wall, booths, and tables to the right, and a dance floor took up half the building on the left. The dance floor was crowded with people. They swayed together in rhythm with the music, grinding and rubbing together. Macy scrunched her nose, the smell of alcohol, sweat, and smoke assaulted her. Marie was happily chatting while the group made their way to the bar.   Marie and Macy both sat on bar stools with Max and Ian hovering behind them. Marie ordered four shots of tequila and asked the bartender to have four more ready.  She slid a shot to each of the guys and Macy. Macy did not drink often, so she took the shot with caution. She threw her head back and swallowed the bitter drink. She faked a smile when Marie clicked their second shots, “cheers to my birthday!” Macy downed the second shot wondering how long it would be before she felt the alcohol’s effect.   She turned around and studied the people dancing.  They were bumping and grinding on each other, and she thought that there was less dancing and more humping to this kind of club.  Macy kept her eyes turned toward the crowded dance floor trying to avoid another shot. But when Ian’s hand brushed her lower back, Macy grimaced and scooted to the side. She looked directly at Ian who slid another shot glass to her. Macy quickly drank it and stood. She had to get away from him.   She leaned into Marie’s ear, “let’s go dance”. Marie took her hand and they made their way to the dance floor.   Macy swayed to the beat with Marie facing her doing the same. She was dizzy from the shots, but she felt giddy. Macy had never been a drinker. Honestly, she had never had more than a glass of wine. The euphoric feeling, she felt was nice.  She could understand why people drank. She smiled at Marie while they danced. Suddenly arms had snaked around Macy’s waist. She was still swaying with the music but tensed when the owner of the arms grazed his front against her backside. Macy froze, uncomfortable with him so close. She started to walk away, but the man put his hand on her thigh. His sleazy hand started to move his hand up and under her dress. Disgust overwhelmed Macy, killing the nice buzz she had. She pushed him off and quickly left the dance floor.        Ian and Max were seated in a booth enjoying their drinks and eyeing the dance floor when Macy walked over. She slid into the booth, leaving room for Marie who had followed her. A waitress came and set two tumblers with amber liquid in front of the ladies. She smiled at the guys and then sauntered off. “Come on I need to freshen up”, Marie took ahold of Macy’s arm. Macy was slightly aggravated that Marie made her slide back out of the booth but followed her friend. In the restroom, Marie grabbed a towel and wet it to wipe across her neck and cleavage. Macy washed her hands and applied gloss to her lips. “This has been so much fun. I cannot believe you danced. You should have done this with me sooner”, Marie was on a drunk ramble. They both glanced at themselves in the mirror once more before heading back to the booth.  As they walked Maire spoke, “You should give Max a chance.  I know he can be dull, but he has been interested in you ever since he saw you at the airport.  I just think it could be nice for you to have a guy’s attention.  I have Ian, but honestly, I believe Max could be fun.”  Macy did not respond.  It was Marie’s night, so she did not want to hurt her feelings by letting her know that she had no interest in Max. Or that Ian was a total creep.      It was close to eleven when the girls slid back into the booth, and the club was filling up. Macy sipped on her drink while she watched the action on the dance floor. Marie and the guys chatted amongst themselves until Marie jumped up excited, “I am ready to dance again, who wants to join me?”   Max slid out of the booth from his side and grabbed Marie’s hand. His smile was wide, and as Marie pulled him towards the dance floor he turned to wink at Macy. Ian was still seated in the booth with Macy, but they did not speak.   Macy was uncomfortable around Ian, and she had nothing to talk about. She continued to sip her drink, which was almost empty. She watched Marie and Max dance. When she felt movement beside her, Macy looked up to see Ian had moved closer. Her eyes felt strained as she looked at how close he had gotten to her. She had to tilt her neck to look up at him. “I enjoyed watching you dance. You are incredibly sexy.” He ran his finger from her shoulder to her wrist.  His touch on her exposed skin made her queasy. She leaned away.   “What are you hiding from,” Ian smirked.   Macy started to tell him that she found him disgusting and wanted him to get away from her, but she reined her temper. Her quiet nature overruled her disgust for Ian. Instead, she picked up her drink and took a long swallow.  She avoided his eyes by pretending to watch the dance floor. When Ian did not take the hint and back away from her, Macy excused herself to the restroom. Wobbling she made her way to the door marked ladies. She was really dizzy, and she felt tired suddenly. She did not drink often and tonight she had been sipping something that Marie ordered after their shots.  She thought she must be drunker than she realized.    Macy grabbed a paper towel to wet and wiped her face and neck. Then headed back to her table, where Ian still sat.  A fresh drink was waiting for her and he smiled that creepy smile like she should be proud he had ordered it for her
