Zach:
The chair creaked as Zach leaned back. Sarah had talked for half an hour about Macy, she adored the child. Her accomplishments, her talents, her compassion, and her intelligence were all Sarah gushed,
"I have been with that girl since she was a baby and I knew she would do great things. I am just excited to see how it unfolds. Her getting away will be good for her." but while Zach listened, he could not understand.
How had she just thrown everything they built away? How had she just dumped her parent's dream, and all the work he had done? She wanted to follow her own path sure, but he did not understand. He had come from nowhere with no family to take care of him. This girl had no idea. He was pissed. He had put his own time into keeping that business going, for her, and then she just throws it away. She is a spoilt rich princess who is throwing her life away.
Sarah interrupted his thoughts, “I am taking care of the house until she returns from Rome. She has only been gone a couple of days and I already miss her dearly, but the house will be fine for however long she stays."
Zach wanted Sarah to be concerned for Macy, but the lady seemed to think Macy would be fine. “She has been alone most of her life, she doesn’t know what she wants. The time in Rome will be good for her. Do not worry Zach, although you have not seen her in years, I assure you Macy is a mature woman now. She just needed to get a kick start, and since she feels like she has no one, she decided traveling would be good for herself.”
Rome. That stupid girl left the country. She was traveling to a foreign country by herself. God, she just wanted to get herself into trouble. A mature woman would have stayed home and taken care of her business. The business that her parents had worked their asses off to build for her and she just threw away.
Sarah spoke like she was not offended by Macy just up and leaving. She cared about Macy for most of the little girl’s life, but she also understood. Macy had always been closed off. Her parents adored her, but they were also focused on building a business so they could not give her as much time as she deserved. David and Leann did not have any family to look after Macy, and Macy had been their only child. He thought about it. Not having any family himself, he kind of understood how Macy felt. Being alone in the world was depressing and possibly dangerous. Zach felt less angry at the brat when he realized he could slightly understand her feelings.
Macy:
Rolling her carry on beside her, Macy scanned the crowd at the airport. She didn’t know if Marie would be there with her father or if they would send someone to pick her up. So she kept scanning the crowd as more passengers glided away with their luggage. Finally, she saw Marie. Her friend was waiting with a smile but had not noticed Macy yet. Macy started walking towards Marie and noticed that Marie was with someone. He was dressed in dark jeans and a grey t-shirt. Macy wondered who he was, but before she could study him anymore Marie saw her and squealed.
“Oh my god, I am so happy you came,” she said while pulling Marie in for a hug.
She looked towards the man as he reached for Macy’s luggage.
“This is Max. He is a friend of mine.”
Macy took another look at him. He was handsome in his own way. Macy looked at his brown hair and brown eyes. His clothes were casual, and he wore a watch. He probably did not lack female attention, but Macy did not feel any way about him.
"It's nice to meet you, Max. I'm Macy." Macy introduced herself.
"It's nice to meet you too, Marie has told us a lot about you. She's been so excited that you were coming that we feel like I already know you." He smiled so big that Macy was afraid his cheeks would hurt.
She thought maybe he was Marie’s boyfriend but decided not to ask. But she did wonder who he was talking about when he said: "we". Instead of standing in the airport she decided there would be time to find out later so, she followed the pair out to a waiting car. A driver came around to open the door and the ladies got in. After putting the luggage in the trunk, Max joined them and they headed to the flat that Macy and Maire would share.
