••••••Sam POV••••••
Get a grip Sam! You can’t go around sleeping with employees ! You haven’t before so lets not start now!
I thought while splashing water on my face. I finally made it to the bathroom and after using it I had to talk some sense into myself. 5 years and I’ve never had the urge to sleep with any of my coworkers. None of the other employees look like her either. I could have got lost in those big brown eyes and as close as I was I could see the hazel flecks that made them shine like stars. I exited the bathroom and went down the hall. I made my way back to the private booth only to find a surprise waiting on me. My brother Jackson had his arm around my secretary shoulders, whispering in her ear. I watched her start to giggle and then she looked at me. She waved and I gave a half smile but still had a look of confusion. Just as I got to the table I saw Rachel sitting in the booth seat, the high back was hiding her from my angle walking up. I gave her a nod and she blushed breaking eye contact as she slid over to give me room. Cassie watching our exchange leaned across the table so we could hear her.
“I was just introducing Jackson here to Rachel one of the best damn editors in the company” she said with a twinkle of pride in her friend. I don’t know why but a hint of jealousy went through me. Why does Jackson need to be introduced? I looked over to my brother who was reaching his hand out for Rachel to shake. As she grabbed hold of his hand he leaned over, looked at me, and kissed the back of her hand. What the hell man? My nostrils flared a little as I exhaled through my nose. I saw Rachel pull her hand back and cover her mouth as if she was a shy school girl. That really got me seething. That should be me making her react that way. I mean...crap! Apparently my pep talk flew right out of my head. I looked over at Cassidy and I saw a gleam of laughter in her eye. Oh you guys are good. I’ve known Cassidy and Jackson long enough to know they are kind of similar and what they have most in common is their love of jokes.
We all looked at each other and bust out laughing. Rachel was the first of us to break out and she stopped a passing bottle girl to order us all another bottle of champagne.
“So what brings you ladies out tonight?” Jackson asks grabbing a flute when the champagne is here.
“Celebrating, hence the champagne” Rachel replies taking a sip of her glass.
“We’re also going to forget about all our problems and have the best night of our lives!” Cassidy chimes in.
“I’ll toast to that” Jackson says a she clinks his glass.
“What are you guys plans for the week off?” I ask curious.
“Well I’m staying in New York and Rachel is going to see her family for the week.” Cassidy says. I notice Jackson has an arm resting on the back of her seat and he leans in to say something in her ear. They both get up and make their way onto the dance floor.
I turn my attention to Rachel. She is sipping on her drink grooving and bobbing her head to the music. Her eyes are closed so she doesn’t see me looking at her. Her caramel skin looks so smooth I just want to palm her face and caress her cheeks. She opens her eyes and then bites her lips trying to hide a smile.
“There you go staring again Mr.Turner.”
I scoot over right next to her putting my hand on the cushion behind her leaning on my arm so I was right in her face. I narrow my eyes at her in a challenge. She didn’t back down and stared right back into my eyes. We sat there for however long until she broke out into a face splitting grin while crossing her eyes. I couldn’t hold my laughter and we both leaned into each other for support. Our laughter died down until I realized I had my hand around her waist and she had her hand on my chest. She was still giggling until I had pulled her closer into my chest until she was flush against me. I don’t know what got into me but it just felt right to have her in my arms. I looked into her shocked face but I swear I also saw an internal battle in her eyes. For some reason it made me feel better knowing I wasn’t the only one dealing with this internal struggle. Her face was soft and so open I probably could have got the chance to taste her luscious lips at that moment but instead I grinned and said,
“Hey...”
“Yes Sam” she breathed out.
“Wanna go for a walk?”
