Axel’s pov I clenched my jaw, dodging another round of bullets. “I know, I know!” The wastelands were difficult to maneuver through. They were filled with jagged rocks and had uneven roads, yet I pushed the truck to its limit. The enemy vehicles zoomed past us as they fired at our truck trying to disable it. They were faster than us but this was my home, I knew it better than anyone else. But they didn’t stop. “They’re not quitting,” Lysander said, the edge in his voice as tight as a wire. “We’re under attack. What should I do?” “Hold on!” I yelled. “What?” Lysander’s head snapped toward me. I smirked. Time to end this. I yanked the wheel and stomped on the brake, spinning a U-turn as the treads screeched against cracked earth. The truck was front to front with the SUVs coming at us
