Karla’s pov I lay there, on the bed. I was exhausted and shattered. My legs felt like concrete—stuck in position and not willing to function properly. I soothed myself with thoughts, but that’s all they were—thoughts. The reality was far different. My own body had betrayed me, and no amount of wishing or thinking could change that fact. I was paralyzed. No one wanted to say those words but it was the truth. I focused my gaze on the ceiling, not wanting to see Alaric standing there.
