Axel’s pov He smirked, shaking his head. “I don’t need your backup, Axel. I’m not afraid to do what’s right, even if it means standing alone.” With that he turned on his heel and stormed out of the room, the door swinging shut behind him. The silence was thick and tense. “He’ll be sorry he said that,” Lysander eventually sighed. Kai reclined back in his seat, lacing his fingers behind his head. “Let him be sorry,” he waved off. “I’m not going to waste my breath on someone who doesn’t want to hear the truth.” I sat back down, my mind spinning. Alaric’s words had cut through me but I wouldn’t let him see that. Maybe he was right, maybe Karla did need someone to lean on, but there was too much risk in asking too much of her right now. I couldn’t afford to act on my anger or frustration.
