Alaric’s pov Kai looked at me for a moment before I smiled at our mother to cover my nervousness. “They’re… around, mom. They’re probably out handling some pack stuff or whatever.” Her sharp eyes settled on me and I knew that she didn’t really buy it. “You boys aren’t keeping anything from me, are you?” She crossed her arms over her chest. “You know how your father feels about secrets.” “We’re not,” Kai said in such an easy voice I almost believed we had nothing to hide. “It’s Axel and Lysander. You know them; all closed-mouthed like they stole something.” She sighed and nodded slowly. “Alright,” she said. “But I came to tell you some good news. I spoke with the hospital earlier and it seems like Karla’s doing better.” I blinked in surprise. “What? Really?” “Yes,” she smiled gently.
