Karla’s pov
I lay in bed and looked at Kai, who sat on the edge of my bed with a plate of food. His calm eyes told me all I needed to know about him as he watched me with curiosity.
“I can keep this here for you if you want,” he said. “You look like you need something to eat.”
I didn’t know what to say to him but to give him an awkward smile. I couldn’t even say anything as I knew there would be a war soon enough when Alaric and Axel would show up.
“Actually, there’s something I have to tell you,” I said as the door almost immediately reopened and before speaking even one word, two loud voices intruded.
“I got here first, Alaric!” Axel’s voice rang out.
