Pagbaba nila ng bus, biglang kumulimlim ang langit kahit umaga pa.
Parang may mabigat na presensya sa paligid.
“Stay close to me,” Rafe whispered.
They crossed the small terminal. Ordinary people were walking around — vendors, commuters, students — pero si Rafe, nakatingin sa mga anino, sa mga sulok, sa mga tao na hindi tumitingin pabalik.
“Rafe, nakakatakot ‘tong ginagawa mo.”
“Mas nakakatakot kung hindi,” he replied.
Then Alina felt it.
A strange pull sa likod niya. A presence.
Dahan-dahan siyang lumingon.
There was a man standing far behind them.
All black.
Face emotionless.
Staring directly at her.
“Rafe…” she whispered.
“I see him,” Rafe said, voice tense.
“Is he—”
“Yes.
First Seeker.”
Panic started to rise in her chest.
But the man didn’t walk closer.
He simply lifted his hand…
…showing the same symbol on his palm.
The crescent with a line.
Pero sa kanya, kulay itim.
Hers was faint silver.
“The more the Seekers appear,” Rafe murmured, “the more awakened you become.”
The man smiled.
A cold, terrifying smile.
And the worst part?
Alina felt something inside her respond.
Like a thread pulling her toward him.
“Alina. Look away,” Rafe ordered softly.
She did. But her heart wouldn’t stop pounding.
This was only the beginning.
