Rafe dragged her into a narrow alley papuntang lumang apartment complex. “Where are we going?” she asked. “Safehouse. For now.” The building was old, abandoned-looking, halos gumuho na. Seekers can track energy. Yours especially.” “Why mine?” Rafe paused, then finally admitted: “Because yours is the strongest I’ve ever felt.” She swallowed hard. “I’m dangerous?” “Not dangerous,” Rafe whispered. “Important.” She sat down on the couch. Rafe handed her a warm drink. “Taste this,” he said. “Bakit?” “It calms awakened energy.” She drank it anyway. Warm. Sweet. Strange. “Rafe… what am I awakening into?” He looked at her wrist again, at the mark that now glowed faintly like moonlight. “You’re turning into what you were always meant to be,” he said. “One of the Lunar-Marked.” “Lunar… what?” “We’re bound to the moon. To visions. To threads of fate. Every Lunar-Marked is born for one purpose.” “And what’s mine?” He stared at her too long. Too intently. “That,” he said quietly, “…I don’t know yet.” But the way he said it made her shiver.
