The room was silent after the shockwave. Pero si Alina, hindi na siya yung girl na gising lang kagabi. Her breathing slowed. Her vision sharpened. She could hear things she shouldn’t hear— like the faint whispering of the wind… and the heartbeat of Rafe. “Alina…” Rafe whispered. “Can you hear me?” “Yes.” Her voice sounded… different. Calmer. Stronger. “You awakened too fast,” Rafe said. “No one ever awakened in just one night. Not even me.” “What does that mean?” “It means the seal inside you wasn’t just a seal.” He took a deep, careful breath. “It was holding something back.” Her chest tightened. “What something?” “Power,” he said. “Or a memory. I’m not sure.” But Alina felt it. A pressure inside her chest, like a locked door starting to crack open. “Rafe…” “I think I’m starting to remember him.” Rafe froze. “Kael?” he asked quietly. She nodded slowly. But before she could explain, the lights flickered again. Rafe stepped in front of her. “Stay behind me.” “Why—” “Seekers,” he whispered. “They found us.”
