Chapter 19

283 Words
Days passed. Safe from immediate danger, but the threat of the Seekers lingered. Rafe trained Alina, teaching her to control her mark. Every movement, every breath, every surge of energy — he guided her. “You need to master your power,” Rafe said, eyes serious. “Not for me… for yourself. So you can survive whatever comes next.” Alina nodded, determination growing. She felt stronger. But more than power, she realized… her trust in Rafe was something she couldn’t ignore anymore. Slowly, she reached for his hand — not for protection, but because it felt natural. Rafe’s hand squeezed hers in response, silently promising: I’m not letting go. The peace was short-lived. One night, the forest around them shimmered with dark energy. Seekers had found them — dozens, surrounding the cave. Rafe held Alina close. “Ready?” he asked, face set. Alina nodded. “I trust you.” Together, they unleashed their combined power. Her mark glowed fiercely, Rafe’s energy intertwined with hers, forming a shield of light that repelled the Seekers. They fought side by side, seamless, synchronized. Every movement whispered: they are stronger together. After the battle, they sat under the moon. Exhausted, bruised, but alive. Alina finally looked at Rafe, eyes soft. “I… I think I remember… why my heart always found you.” Rafe’s lips curved slightly, relief evident. “I’ve waited a long time to hear that.” She reached out, touching his cheek gently. “I don’t fully understand everything… but I know this: I trust you.” Rafe leaned closer, foreheads touching. “Trust me, and I’ll never let anything happen to you.” The moon shone brighter, as if blessing them.
