Chapter 30

2722 Words
Edith had been about to shed a couple of tears, but when she heard the familiar tone of indifference, her touching heart was instantly knocked to the ground, leaving her with nothing left. She pulled out her wand without expression, and used a purification spell on Bridges' blackened left arm, only to see the dense black gas on the arm slowly dissipate, and Bridges' face quickly softened. The result of this guy does not hurt after the first reaction is to frown at their own torn clothes, overflowing with disdain. Edith: "......" she couldn't help but say aloud with sunken eyes, "Do you realize that just now the undead almost touched your face, and as a result your first reaction at this moment is to worry about your clothes. " Bridges's black eyes looked at her quietly, half a moment, lips lifted: "You have no right to say me, heartless little bastard ...... I look like this and for whom, hmm?" Edith froze, and stiffened her lips, "Who knows who you're doing it for, not for me anyway." Trying to get himself to his feet, Bridges sank his voice and said in a deliberately sarcastic accent, "Aha, every word of your sentence is a precise and perfect illustration of what it means to have a 'dog-eaten conscience'" "It's not as serious as you make it out to be, Master Clark." Edith bristled, but couldn't help but reach out to help him as he struggled to get up because of the injury to one of his hands. Young Master Clark probably felt that it was very embarrassing for him to be helped in his present state, and for the sake of his honorable and unparalleled face, he firmly and coldly refused Edith's help, and stood up by himself, and if he ignored his dirty and tattered riding clothes, he looked very handsome and eye-catching indeed. On this side, Flender and Lexi, who had been separated from Penny, finally heard the commotion and rushed inside the cave. "Hey ...... look at the look of this cave, did some kind of grueling battle just break out here?" Bridges glanced coldly at Lexi and said lightly, "Obviously - you're too late, the battle just ended." "So, can I know what happened?" Lexi's gaze swept over Bridges' tattered clothing, froze, and said, "Bridges, you're in a bit of a mess, and it looks like what you encountered was not easy." "So why are you so late?" Bridges' voice was low, "Ms. Gabriel asked us to protect the first years, and if it wasn't for Edith and I arriving in time just now, the picture you all saw at this moment would probably be a hundred times more gruesome than it is now." Lexi rubbed her nose in embarrassment, knowing that it was indeed her own negligence, but, before coming to the cave, he had clearly explained that Penny and Flanda should not go far away, and the two had clearly promised to do so, but who knew that not a moment later Penny would be gone. When they arrived here, it seemed to be too late. Flanda swept around before seeing Penny standing beside Edith, her face was pale and stiff, she seemed to be in great shock. "Oh, are you all right, Penny?" Edith looked at him worriedly as well, Penny finally came back to her senses and she smiled stiffly, "It's fine, I'm just ...... a little shaken up." Edith nodded her head quite understandingly, in that situation just now, with Penny alone, it was normal for her to be startled. Edith gently patted her back and comforted, "It's okay, the undead have been defeated by us." Us? The undead had indeed been defeated, but it did not include her. It was Young Master Clark and Edith who teamed up to kill the undead - and she, at the time, would just stand stiffly, unable to think of a single spell she could use. Penny couldn't forget the critically timely and beautiful beginner's boundary spell that Edith had used in that moment of crisis. If she hadn't trapped the undead in time, Young Master Clarke probably wouldn't have been able to kill them so easily. The stark contrast made Penny feel deeply frustrated. Without Edith's performance, she could have comforted herself by saying that she had never had any experience fighting the undead head-on, and that it was normal for her to be unable to react this time. But Edith's timely and effective Boundary Technique had shattered her false self-deception cleanly, and the facts told her that she just couldn't do it, she just couldn't compare to Edith. Penny had mixed feelings towards Edith, she was grateful to her, envious of her, and perhaps a little bit jealous. But this jealousy was not the source of her pain; she had never known Edith to be good, and it was herself who really caused her pain. --There is nothing more painful than to have someone who wants to be strong realize that she has an insurmountable mountain in front of her. The frustration can almost crush her. The activity of Penny's psyche went almost unnoticed, at least on the surface, as she had looked so white-faced from earlier that the crowd assumed she was just freaking out. Edith looked over to Bridges' wound, the black marks on it had disappeared but that didn't mean the wound was completely healed, she said worriedly, "We need to get out of here and get to Mr. Gabriel, Bridges is injured and we need to get him to the medical room as soon as possible." Master Clark, however, was feisty and said, "Don't you have matsutake mushrooms left over from your homework? I'm good enough to finish your homework first." Edith looked at him expressionlessly, and suddenly reached out her hand and gently poked his wound, only to see Young Master Clark hiss, his good-looking features crumpling together, "Oh, little bastard, what are you doing here ......" Edith hooked up the corner of her mouth, "Isn't it okay?" Master Clark glanced at her calmly, "As long as you don't touch ...... me I'm fine." It was a very pretty thing to say, but Edith could plainly see Master Clark's reddened earlobes, and was a little amused in her heart at this stubborn little quirk of his. "You'll have to listen to me this time." Edith decided not to bullshit the man. "Listen," Master Clark said mockingly, "No lower class would dare say such a thing in front of me, kiddo!" "So now can I have a proper name with you except some 'brat, little bastard'?" "Depends on my mood" Noticing Edith's gaze, Master Clark gave a lurch and switched to, "Well, it depends on how you behave then." Determined to show him how to behave, Edith poked his wound again with her hand - very deliberately, of course. Master Clark grunted uncontrollably. "Master Clark, don't forget that you're a sick man now, and sick men should talk less." Edith lifted her chin and said nobly and coldly. With this tangible threat, Young Master Clark sank his face, his jawline tightened, and finally shut his mouth completely. With this most difficult one resolved, Edith turned her head to look at Flanda, "Flanda, have you found your Luminescent Grass Under the Moon yet?" Flanda shook her head, "Originally we went to the stream to look for it, but then Penny suddenly dragged us to the cave over here again, saying that the Luminescent Grass under the Moon grows in the cave." In fact, Flanda now had some regrets, she felt that if she didn't come to the cave, this wouldn't have happened later. "The Luminescent Grass under the Moon does grow in the cave, I've already dug up my own share, you dig up another one, and when you do, we'll go find Ms. Gabri." Flanda said with some concern, "What about the matsutake mushrooms? Will Mr. Gabriel flunk our homework." Edith shook her head, her clear blue eyes full of certainty, "Trust me, those teachers are obviously more interested in the missing undead than any matsutake mushrooms." And the truth was just like what Edith said, seeing that a few of them came back early before it was time to gather, Gabri promptly inquired about the reason, and when he heard that they had encountered undead while gathering the fluorescent grass under the moon, his entire body leapt out of the chair with a degree of agility that was extremely disproportionate to his physical size. "You said you met the undead? In a cave?" Edith nodded affirmatively, "We met it inside the cave when we were gathering fluorescent grass under the moon, it was about to attack my companion." After a pause, Edith added, "It was Bridges who saved us." Gabriel looked over at the handsome fourth year and saw that the fabric of his left arm was torn in a large gash and he seemed to be slightly injured. "You've been bitten by the undead." Probably the matter of being bitten by the undead was very humiliating to Young Master Clarke, who now tensed his handsome face and half-heartedly hmmm'd from his nostrils reluctantly. Gabry smiled at him and said with satisfaction, "You did well, so now what about that undead, did it run away or-" Bridges cleared his throat and said expressionlessly, "Killed by me." Gabry froze, like he was a little surprised, but he quickly responded with a bigger smile on his face, "Very good." He complimented again, scanning Bridges' wounds, Gabri noticed something keenly, "Mr. Clark, it appears that someone has tended to your wounds." Bridges hmmmed and pulled Edith towards him, "She was the one who took care of it for me." Gabriel recognized Edith, of course - who in Sophia wouldn't recognize the little girl! "A very beautiful purification spell, Ms. Willey." Edith smiled sweetly and said, "Sensei, I think Bridges' wound should still be treated in the infirmary." Gabriel nodded, "That's the way it should be," he glanced at Edith and added, "Since you're in a group with Mr. Clark, you'll accompany him to the infirmary!" This was just what Edith wanted, with a twinkle in her eye, Edith glanced at the out of sorts Penny and added, "Teacher, my chaperone seems to be in shock, can I take her to the infirmary as well." Gabriel readily agreed. Edith took out the Luminescent Grass under the Moon that she had collected earlier and handed it to Gabri, "Teacher, this is the homework for this class, only I haven't found the Matsutake Mushroom yet." She said looking a bit cautious. Teacher Gabrie saw the small expression on her face and thought she was worried about failing the class, waving her hand graciously, "Don't worry, there won't be any problems with your grades." In fact, even if this accident hadn't occurred, as long as he could find either of the Luminescent Grass under the Moon and the Matsutake Mushroom, Gabriele would have given at least a passing grade. In the medical room, Mrs. Anas was applying a purple potion to Bridges' wound. The potion had calming and anti-inflammatory properties, and it stung quite a bit when applied. After applying the potion Mrs. Anas took a clean bandage to dress Bridges' wound, and during this time the handsome teenager didn't say a word, he just looked a little white, and not much blood could be seen on his thin lips. "I don't know where you guys are inviting the undead from, but apparently you little guys are lucky enough - just a bite on the arm." Bridges strained his not-so-good-looking face, wondering if he should be happy about Mrs. Anas's comment - it sounded like she meant that it was quite a shame that the undead hadn't bitten him in the neck or whatever other fatal part of his body. Edith took one look at Bridges' face and knew what he was thinking, and with some amusement in her heart, clearing her throat, she looked over at the elegant lady in the white gown and glasses and said: "Mrs. Anas." "Would you mind showing it again to my chaperone, who was also nearly attacked by the undead just now." Anas, of course, would not refuse, in fact, she had long since noticed the small, thin girl who was white-faced and had not said a word during the day. She pulled out her own wand, a surprisingly rare transparent material, and a blue glow emanated from the tip before falling onto Penny's body. This attribute of magic was all too familiar to Penny, as Mrs. Anas was a water magician just like her. By the time Anas retrieved her wand, her face had grown serious and she looked at Penny without a word. Edith frowned then asked: "Is something wrong with Penny? I remember the undead didn't attack her before." Surprisingly, Mrs. Anas shook her head, "There's nothing physically wrong with her." Edith and Bridges looked at each other, both flashing the same spiteful comment in their eyes, Nothing why do you look so serious. When the inspection was almost complete, Mrs. Anas handed Bridges the bottle of purple potion from before and barked: "Apply it twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, and in four days your wounds will be fully recovered." Young Master Clark pursed his lips, holding the bottle of purple potion, and then seeing the expression of a certain little heartless snickering, he felt very unworthy of the fact that he had taken a lesson and ended up hanging up all over the place for nothing. Giving Bridges a bottle of purple potion, Mrs. Anas didn't stop moving, between them she took out another even smaller bottle from the cupboard, which contained something unknown, and handed it to Penny. Penny looked up in confusion. Anas pushed up his glasses and looked at the little girl and said very seriously: "Don't be nervous, it's not really a medicine, it's only effect is just to help you sleep." "You are perfectly healthy, but I think that you still need a good night's sleep, Miss Hall." Mrs. Anas uttered the words that puzzled Edith but shook Penny to her core. As they left the medical room, Edith and Bridges walked side by side, and Penny, seemingly at Mrs. Anas' words, staggered a few steps behind. Bridges looked odd with one hand bandaged and the other cupped around a medicine bottle. The young master apparently noticed this as well - he felt it was very damaging to his image as a wise and honorable man, so he shoved the bottle of medicine into Edith's hand as soon as he could. Edith: "? What for?" Master Clark was expressionless, "Shouldn't you be in charge of this stuff?" Edith: "...... can't understand, speak human. " He pursed his lips and said in a matter of fact tone, "I saved you." Edith nodded, which was barely a fact, "Then logically, something like helping me change my medicine is of course your task." Edith's expression after hearing this was, how can I put it, like she had split her sides on the spot, she could barely hold back a roll of her eyes, "So you're happy to save me, what's stopping me?" The tone of these words was like a little white wolf, Bridges was so exasperated that his wound started to hurt again, he couldn't help but cover his arm with one hand, as a result, when Edith saw his action, her complexion tightened: "Are you cracking your wound again? Do you want to go back and get Mrs. Anas to show you again." Master Clark pursed his pale lips, narrowed his eyes, and didn't speak. When Edith saw his expression, and thought that this man had indeed been injured in order to save himself, her heart softened and she couldn't help but squeeze the bottle in her hand. Four seconds later, the little girl frowned with a thin brow and said in a you're annoying me tone: "OK, OK, OK, I'll change it for you OK!" Young Master Clark's dark eyes glanced unmovingly at Edith's white side face, and in his heart he thought - This little bastard seems to eat softness but not hardness!
