"Good, you've made a big splash this time." Elena said teasingly as she watched Edith come down from the center of the auditorium.
Edith shrugged, "Say it like I'm happy about it."
Their Vrilian house style was one of understated elegance, something so high-profile wouldn't suit her. Thinking of a certain line of sight that had been staring at her, Edith added in her mind, yes, such a thing would be suitable for that snooty young master.
Elena rolled her eyes, thinking that she was getting the better of her, "Believe it or not, every single person in the school will probably recognize you after the opening ceremony."
Edith frowned keenly, "What, there's more to it than that?"
"You're the second Light Wizard in Sophia's class."
"Second?" Listening to Elena's meaning the other one's identity is a bit special ah.
Elena moved closer to Edith and lowered her voice, "The royal family." Said onion white finger than a two.
Royal family, second in the sequence, Edith instantly realized, she looked to Elena, "Prince Connor?"
Elena nodded, "He might be coming to meet you after today."
Cat eyes rolled, the complexity in Edith's eyes faded and she returned to her relaxed look, leaning her body against the back of the chair, "Just come, it won't hurt to say hello." She said indifferently.
Edith Elena glanced at each other, both understanding each other's meaning.
They might be able to make a feud or an alliance with someone else, no matter how fierce the ruckus was, behind closed doors it was all an internal matter, and all the nobles in Estara understood one thing - they were a community of interest, and with regards to the royal family, of course, they were to be treated with respect.
Although Edith and the girls had lowered their voices when they spoke, Penny, who was sitting next to her, could still hear them clearly, and she keenly noticed the subtle tone in which Edith and Elena brought up the royal family - there was complexity in it, there was a headache in it, and yet there wasn't the slightest bit of reverence.
It was a strange thing in the class-divided Estara, as if the commoners and lesser nobles had the fear of the great nobles etched into their bones, so why would nobles like Edith and the others not have the slightest bit of reverence for the royal family that ruled over them?
Penny intuited that there was something she didn't know.
The testing in the auditorium continued, and by the time the parchment in the old principal's hand was read from the beginning to the end by him, it signaled that all the new students had been tested.
Edith covered her mouth with a showy yawn and looked to the large round clock directly above her, "It's almost over."
"What else is going on back there?"
Elena replied casually, "Who knows, maybe another meeting or something, the school is always willing to get into these things."
Edith couldn't agree more.
Elena's suspicions also proved to be correct, and as the old principal gave the new student speech and declared the ceremony over, a female tutor wearing a feathered bowler hat appeared in time to call out to the new students who were about to exit the room:
"First years stay and meet."
First years? Edith and Elena looked at each other, it wasn't them this was talking about.
When the older students left, the entire auditorium emptied, and the new students stood looking at each other like quails.
The sharp gaze of the female teacher scanned the group of students, meticulously dressed in an old-fashioned gown - every button precisely fastened to the base of her neck - which instantly linked the impression of her to stereotypical dogma.
"I'm your first year's Head Teacher, Lola." She raised her voice.
"First of all, I would like to congratulate you all for not making any mistakes during the magic power test, which means you have successfully become Sophia's students."
They were already Sophia's students, so what was there to congratulate.
"A sapling needs to be pruned to grow into a lush tree, and the growth of even the best student needs proper guidance" she pushed up her glasses, "Since you have become Sophia's students, you have to abide by Sophia's rules and regulations."
"The specific regulations of the school rules will be sent to you in the form of an email, please check your mailbox when you return to your dormitory, in addition to the school rules, the mailbox will also contain the school uniform books and your class schedule for this semester."
"The next thing I'm going to talk about is a few key points in the school rules."
Lola's gaze sharpened, and the students caught in her sight involuntarily scrunched their necks.
"First, brawling and fighting are prohibited on campus on non-specific occasions."
The lower Penny hung her head and couldn't help but spit out, "Prohibiting brawling and fighting"? It seems that even in a different world, this old set of school rules in the school is still firm and tenacious to survive, every school prohibits fighting, but are there still fewer fights - mischievous students can always find a way to exploit the loopholes.
"Secondly, no going out at night after the doors are closed."
"Third, it is forbidden to enter Levin Forest without a tutor's lead or perhaps permission."
"Fourth ......"
When the students underneath were about to hear the "eighteen forbidden", the serious female head teacher finally stopped.
"That's all for now." She said so.
If it wasn't out of place, the undisciplined freshmen would have almost rolled their eyes in her face, what do you mean, "That's all there is for now?"
For God's sake, isn't that enough?
"Any of these rules, if you break them and I find out about it, you will be punished with either disciplinary action or expulsion" Director Lola narrowed her eyes, "I don't think you're going to doubt the truth of what I'm saying."
Yes, no proof is needed, your appearance says it all - the first year muttered in his mind.
"You will be officially attending classes in two days, so during these two days, you need to choose your preferred tutor - of course, please act according to your ability, choosing is a two-way process, and if you choose any tutor but fail his exams, I think you'll have to face the pitiful situation of having nowhere to go."
It was surprising that the serious Director Lola had a talent for telling cold jokes, at least the students underneath were amused by her - but Lola's face was expressionless, halfway to telling a joke, she could tell at a glance that these students didn't realize the seriousness of the situation, but so what, she had already reminded them once that reality would teach them to behave, so she continued:
"Please submit the list of mentors of your choice to me by tomorrow at the latest, and then pass the mentor's test the day after tomorrow."
"Alright, have fun with your exams and adjourn."
The first-years walked slowly out of the auditorium after being stuffed with a brain full of rules and regulations - most of them were in groups of three or five, and it was obvious that even on the first day of school, these students had divided themselves into groups.
"Listen to what it's called, 'have a good exam', who has a good exam anyways?" Elena said sarcastically.
Edith and Elena walked side by side in front of them, with Penny walking behind as well as another girl, Flanda, who was Elena's chaperone.
"Not necessarily." Contemplating for a split second, Edith said objectively, "I remember once in Violet, you got a commendation from your tutor for an exam, for which you happily ate an extra bowl of rice."
Elena: "I don't remember what happened at ......."
Edith tickles the corners of her mouth, "Oh, you always selectively forget things, but that's okay, I'll just remember them for you."
Elena: "???" Why do good sisters have to hurt each other?
Flanda, who was following behind, couldn't help but laugh, probably the only one who could make Elena suffer was Ms. Willey.
Edith turned back at the sound and saw Flanda, raising an eyebrow slightly, she knew this was Elena's chaperone but they hadn't said a word yet.
Feeling Edith look at her, Flanda lifted both sides of her skirt and curtsied, "The Honorable Miss Willey, I'm Flanda. Morvis, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Edith smiled, revealing two light pear swirls, "Just call me Edith."
As they made their way out of the auditorium, Edith glanced at the unending road and asked:
"How are we going to get back to the dorms?"
Elena looked at her strangely twice, "My dear, how is it that you don't know anything about how Aunt Polina was comfortable letting you come to Sofia."
Edith: "Of course mom made arrangements for me."
Elena raised an eyebrow, "Like what?"
Edith said dryly, "Like entrusting me to her good friend Aunt Jolene, and then Aunt Jolene having his son take good care of me."
"That doesn't sound like much of a problem, so how did you end up not knowing a thing about it?"
"No problem up front, of course, the problem is that Aunt Jolene's son - isn't exactly reliable." Edith said with a slight egg on her face.
"Can I find out who he is?"
After three seconds of silence, Edith uttered a name:
"Bridges. Clark."
Elena smacked her lips in comprehension, "A name like thunder." Edith gave a sarcastic laugh and didn't say anything.
"You know, I came to Sofia yesterday, and then got cocooned hearing Master Clark's name, he's so famous, how come you don't seem to be too keen on him?"
"Famous only means he's a total tart flower peacock, but it doesn't prove he's helpful." Edith shrugged.
"Honey," Elena said, feigning surprise, "you're being a little mean today."
"It's not like I'm being mean to you." Edith glared at her in disbelief, "Stop being peevish and tell us how to get back to the dorms, we've got tutor information to go over later, so hurry up."
"Okay, okay," Elena pointed in a direction, "That main road leads from the top of the hill to the bottom, there'll be a school bus next to it!"
"Of course, if you don't want to squeeze in with the others, you can also buy a magic carrier yourself." Said from she pulled something out of her space ring, "Look!" She said smugly.
It was a magic carrier for four people, powered by energy stones.
Edith's eyes lit up, "This is nice."
Elena smiled and greeted people as they got into the car, Flanda had wanted to help her drive but Elena waved it off and refused, she sat in the driver's seat and spoke to Edith:
"You can get it at the bottom of the hill in Levin."
Edith urged her to drive, cat eyes sparkling, "I'll buy one someday." Apparently this magic carrier of Elena's had caught her eye.
Penny didn't make a sound when she saw Edith unconcernedly shoving an energy stone, which could only be purchased with ten thousand gold coins, into the slot of the car, and was just dismayed to realize the truth - perhaps her mother had been right to insist that she be Edith's chaperone. If she had come to Sophia alone to attend school without any attachments, she wouldn't even be able to support the daily expenses here.
--Not all nobles are rich, there are quite a few noble families that can only barely maintain the superficial splendor and decency, but in reality, the gold coins stored inside the vault are pitifully small.
