Chapter 27

(Morrigan’s P.O.V) I honestly needed to get out of that office and be on my own, I needed time to think and process everything that’s happened over the last few days. “I’m going for a run; I need some air,” I tell the guys, before walking out the door, not bothering to wait for a response. I walk down the stairs and through the front door of the packhouse, straight to the edge of the forest. I strip behind a tree, tying my clothes to my ankle, and letting Winter take control. She darts out into the forest, nimbly jumping over fallen logs and avoiding low-hanging branches before she realizes we are being followed. Mo, someone is following us. We’re going to have to fight. But I don’t know how to fight in wolf form. It’s a natural instinct, just follow that and we’ll be fine. Before I could respond, a dark gray wolf is in front of me growling at me. I growl back, infusing my Luna aura into it, hoping that this will get him to back off. It doesn’t. That’s when I smell it, the smell of rot and decay…he’s a rogue. He lunges for my throat, going immediately for the kill, but I surprise him by running head-on to meet him, lowering my head to ram into his chest. He falls backward and before I could get to him, he’s back on his feet, ready to charge again. Mo, pull on your magic. Use it to help us. How!? I don’t know how to do that in wolf form! Just feel for it like you do as a human! The rogue attacks again, and this time he makes contact with my left shoulder, taking a chunk of skin and fur with it, taking it down to the muscle. f**k, that hurts. Well, now you’ve done pissed me off buddy, you’re in for a world of hurt now. I pull at my magic and envision the rogue at my feet in pain, and before I know it, I hear his whimpering. He’s at my feet, no wounds on his body, but it’s clear that he’s in pain. Who are you rogue and how did you get on my packlands? I command through the mind link. I’m not telling you, w***e! You are nothing! Even in his mind link, I can hear the pain in his voice. I am your Supreme Luna! You will answer me, rogue! I growl out. No, you are not! You are an abomination that needs to be dealt with! He growls. I’m so taken aback by his words that I loosen the grip I had on my magic, giving him enough of a reprieve from the pain to get up and attack me again. He lunges for my wounded shoulder, but I turn and offer him a swift kick in the face with my hind legs. Putting that weight on my shoulder though, cost me my balance and I fall forward onto the forest floor. Morrigan, magic! I pull on my magic again, this time creating a net to surround the rogue so I can contain him long enough to mind link some warriors. Oh wait, I can’t do that yet, I haven’t been initiated into the back. Well f**k, looks like I get to contact my mate. f**k me. Morrigan! Magic! NOW! Winter pulls me from the thought, and I focus solidly on my magic, successfully trapping the rogue in a net made of vines that were unbreakable by him. I decide that I don’t care if he sees me naked because I need to keep an eye on this fucker, so I shift back to my human form and quickly put my clothes back on. “I will not ask again, rogue. Who are you and how did you get on to my pack lands?” I command. I won’t tell you! He snarls in the mind link. “Fine, I will be getting my mate to deal with you then. You know, the Supreme Alpha,” I say. The rogue stops his snarling and suddenly becomes tense, knowing what I just said means his death. Um, babe? Can you come to the forest or, actually, could you send Cormac and some warriors, please? Why? I thought you went for a run. I did and...well, there was a little mishap, so if you could just send Cormac that would be great. K, thanks, love you! I cut the mind link, so he doesn’t ask any more questions and in the hope that he doesn’t come here himself. If he does, I’m in BIG trouble. I sit down on the forest floor thinking over what just happened and trying to ignore the pain in my left shoulder when several large wolves come out of the forest and one of those wolves, is my mate. f**k my life. “Hey baby, so that dude over there in the net needs to be taken to the dungeon or prison or whatever you have here,” I say sweetly. Stark gives Rian back control, shifting back to his human form and standing in front of me in all his naked glory, but he is mad as f**k. “What the hell, Morrigan? What is going on? Who is that wolf?” “Well, I don’t know who he is, but I do know he’s a rogue. Also, can you take me to the pack hospital? My shoulder doesn’t seem to want to heal.” I said, staring at my left shoulder and touching it. I hiss in pain when my finger comes into contact with the wound. I prod around in it a bit trying to figure out how deep he got me when my hand is wrenched away from it. “Are you insane!? Don’t poke around in the wound! Goddess babe. Now, tell us what happened.” Rian orders. “Ugh, fine.” I concede. I go on to tell him the story, mentioning that I was able to mind link the rogue while in wolf form as well as in human form. Rian looks at the wolves next to him and his eyes cloud over. They trotted back behind the trees and shifted. I assume there were shorts stored in the trees somewhere because out came Killian and Cormac in basketball shorts. Cormac tossed a pair to Rian, though I was disappointed that he was covering himself, I just wanted to stare at him. “So wait, you could mind link the rogue while in human form?” Killian asked. “Yeah, what’s so weird about that? Can’t Rian do that too? Or well, any shifter for that matter?” I question. “No mo grá, I can’t. I can only mind link other shifters who aren’t in the pack while in wolf form,” Rian answers. “Okay, so another power. Cool, cool.” I chuckle nervously. “Let’s get this guy down to the cells and see what his motives are. I’ll take Morrigan to the pack hospital.” Rian instructs Cormac and Killian, as he bends down to pick me up off the ground. “I can walk, you know,” I say, annoyed. “I don’t care. I’m so angry at you right now, so it would best to stay quiet.” Rian says through gritted teeth. Yeah, I’m in trouble…again. Well, I know there won’t be any “funishment” this time since I’m injured. It was a quick walk from the forest to the pack hospital where Rian had mind linked Dr. Wyatt. “What happened, Luna?” He asks. “Well, I went for a run in the woods and got attacked by a rogue,” I say simply. “Alright, let’s take a look.” He says, and he gets to work looking at my shoulder. After a few minutes of him looking it over, he sends me for an x-ray just on the off chance the rogue hit bone. Once he read the x-rays, no bones were broken, he stitched up my shoulder and put a salve on it to keep the stitches from itching. “You probably would have healed that on your own in a few days, but I thought it best not to push our luck in that aspect.” He explains. “Will she be alright to travel tomorrow to Eglarest?” Rian asks. I completely forgot that we were meeting King Alstin tomorrow. Well, I suppose I’ll be making a really great first impression then. “Yes, Alpha, she will be fine to travel. The stitches were more of a precaution.” “Thank you, doctor, are we clear to go home?” Rian asks. “Of course, Alpha. Good day, Luna.” He says, bowing his head to the two of us. Rian scoops me up and carries me back to the house in total silence. I am beginning to regret not mind linking him when I had the chance.
