Chapter 24

(Morrigan’s P.O.V)            It was a nice surprise to see Vladimir at the borders of Alynthi and Máni, and I was even more surprised to learn that he was King Cerberus’s nephew! Once we’ve pulled up to the castle and Rian had been a complete moron, Cerberus escorts me into the castle with Rian, Cormac, and Vladimir trailing behind. “This castle has over 250 rooms that house vampires who are newborns, turned in the human realm and those who have not yet met their beloveds.” “Are your beloved’s the same as mates?” “Yes, Luna Morrigan, they are. They are the only ones that we can have children with. We cannot procreate with any other vampire, werewolf, elf, human et Cetra. Only our beloveds can produce our offspring.” “Huh, well I suppose that makes sense. Have you found your beloved King Cerberus?” “Please, just call me Cerberus, my dear. Yes, I found her a long time ago, however; she was killed by another vampire who wanted her for his own.” He says in a whisper. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Cerberus. Please forgive me for asking.” “Please, no worries about it Luna. You had no idea. Now, to set you at ease, because Ilayda has mentioned to Vladimir your apprehension for an arranged marriage before you found your mate. Ilayda is Vladimir’s beloved, so she is well taken care of and loved by him.” “That honestly makes me feel better about their marriage. I was always so concerned about the fact that they are going through with arranged marriages while I was lucky enough to find my mate at my ball.”            We chatted away until we made it to Cerberus’s office, and he helped me into my seat and Rian took the chair next to me and held my hand. Vladimir and Cormac entered right after Rian, taking the seats next to him while Cerberus sat behind his desk. The office was quite large and furnished in very masculine fabrics and paint colors. The chairs were leather but quite comfortable and Cerberus’s desk was solid oak. “Would anyone like anything to drink? Tea, coffee, water?” “I’ll have some coffee, Cerberus, only if it’s…de-coffin-ated, that is,” Rian says with a smirk.            If I could facepalm myself any harder than I did at that moment, I would have given myself a concussion. “Rian, knock it off or I will seriously allow Cerberus to rip out your throat and spit in it,” I say through gritted teeth. “Fine, I’ll stop. Though in all seriousness, Cerberus, I would like a cup of coffee, caffeinated please.” Rian says, sheepishly. “Cerberus, I would love an iced water with a slice of lemon,” I state.            Cormac and Vladimir ask for coffee and water, respectively, and within a few minutes a female vampire is bringing a tray into the room with our drinks on it. Once she is dismissed, we get down to business. “Cerberus, I would like to share with you what I learned from a conversation that I had with Prince Lysander, my sister Winnie’s fiancé and the son of the King and Queen of Khisfire. The fog that was used at the feast was what he called, foresight fog.” “I see that matches with what my vampires found out from a few spell casters and dark Fae they were able to follow.” “Would you happen to know about a Beatrix, Calida, or a Silas? I believe that Calida and Silas are dark Fae and Beatrix is a spell caster.”            Cerberus goes quiet, and the look on his face leads me to believe that he knows at least one of the individuals I mentioned. “Beatrix is a very talented spell caster whose coven creates the foresight fog. She’s very powerful and knows a lot of the weaknesses within each supernatural species. She used to work for Lysander’s parents until she was banished from the palace for trying to slip the Queen a potion to leave her baren so the crown would have to pass to Beatrix’s family.” “Are Beatrix and the Queen related?” “No, the King and Beatrix are related, she is his cousin.” “How could she try and do that to her own family?” “She wanted to be in control, the dark spell casters were shunned much as the dark Fae have been.” “So basically, people who have no control over the gifts the Goddess’ have given them are shunned because of who they are?” “Yes and no, Morrigan. If they are using their gifts for personal gain, then they really can’t be trusted.”            What he says makes sense, however; I don’t like the fact that people are being punished for gifts that were given to them by the Moon Goddess and Goddess Danu. “What did your vampires learn?” Rian speaks up. “Well, in Eferhile there is a small colony of dark Fae that are gathering because, as they stated at the feast, they are tired of being shunned by their people. They are looking to take over and have the dark Fae in power, kill your family and the other nobles and enslave all of the other Fae.” “So basically, any sort of cliché bad guy story,” Cormac says. “Both groups want to take control of each kingdom to bring the darkness to the light,” I whisper to myself. “In a manner of speaking, yes.” “Do you have any knowledge of an ancient Oracle that made a prophecy about a tribrid? That would have been about a thousand years ago.”            Cerberus seems shocked at my question. “How do you know about our ancient Oracle?” “Well, I had a vision or something and Beatrix mentioned that she had found a prophecy made by the Oracle of Alynthi about a tribrid.” “I don’t have any knowledge about that specific prophecy, but we did keep copies of his prophecies in our library if you would like to check it out.” “That would be wonderful, Cerberus,” I say with a smile.            He asks Vladimir to escort me to their library to review the prophecies that they had from their last Oracle. “Are you okay Mo?” He asks. “I’m honestly not sure V, I never thought that I would be a part of something like this, I just thought that maybe I was just meant to be a supernatural, considering I didn’t have any magical abilities and I never shifted. Then suddenly, I’m some rare tribrid who not only HAS a wolf but has magic. It’s just a lot.” I say quietly.            Vlad gives me a side hug of assurance and whispers that everything would be okay as we make it to the library doors. When he opens the doors, it’s like I’m in the middle of the library from Beauty and The Beast and if I could live here I totally would. He walks me back to the far side of the library where there were scrolls upon scrolls of parchment that were organized in their little cubbies. “Well, here they are Mo. Want some help looking through them?” He asks. “Yes please,” I say, knowing that it would take me days if not weeks to get through all of these scrolls.
