Episode4: SHADOWS BETWEEN US

270 Words
Chapter 4 – Shadows Between Us The days that followed blurred into a rhythm of anticipation. Elena would wake up with her heart racing, wondering if Adrian would appear again, and somehow, he always did. At the café, outside her office, once even waiting at the bus stop like it was the most natural thing in the world. Every meeting deepened their connection. Their conversations shifted from surface-level banter to late-night talks that peeled back their layers. Adrian was confident, magnetic, but there were moments when his guard slipped—when his silence grew heavy, when his eyes carried an unspoken burden. One night, as they walked by the riverbank, Elena finally asked, “Why do you look like the world weighs on your shoulders?” Adrian stopped, his gaze fixed on the dark water. “Because it does.” His honesty startled her. She waited, but he didn’t continue. Instead, he turned to her, his expression unreadable. “You make it lighter though.” The words melted her, but the unease lingered. Adrian was hiding something. She could feel it in the way he sometimes avoided her questions, in the way his phone calls pulled him away with a hard edge in his voice. That night, when he kissed her for the first time—soft at first, then with an urgency that stole her breath—Elena forgot every doubt. His hands cradled her face, his lips moved like he’d been waiting a lifetime. The world disappeared. But later, lying awake in her bed, she couldn’t ignore the truth: Adrian wasn’t just a mystery. He was a storm.
